Foundation, lipstick, nail polish, moisturizer, mascara, blush, anti-aging serum and hairspray are eight beauty products every woman should own. But, just what are the best brands for each item? Ying Chu, Glamour’s beauty director, revealed the winners of the magazine’s 10th Annual Glammy Awards to Kathy Lee and Hoda Kotb Thursday.
Readers of the magazine voted for their favorite hair, nails, and makeup items, which make up the list of the top eight beauty products every woman should own. Some of the makeup and skincare were repeat winners of the Glammy Awards, except for the hairstyling tool. All eight beauty products, as revealed on Today, are featured below.
Foundation: L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Makeup is the reader’s choice, and a five-time winner. With 33 shades to choose from, finding a “True Match” is easy.
Mascara: Maybe it’s Maybelline New York Great Lash. For ten years running now, the classic mascara has received Glamour readers’ top nods. Maybe it’s number one because it doesn’t flake, and is uber-affordable.
Blush: CoverGirl Cheekers Blush has also been a Glammy winner for ten years. It too is affordable, and users claim it is simple to apply and “blendable.”
Lipstick, but not just any lip color, MAC lipstick is the preferred makeup source for Glamour readers. The key to MAC lipstick’s success is its “vibrancy, versatility,” shade selection and endurance.
Moisturizer: Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer SPF 15 is also a classic skincare product, winning a Glammy six years in a row. While it is affordable and a sunscreen (plus points), it is most suited for younger skin, but not skin that has begun to show the signs of aging. Beauty tip: It is never too early to begin the fight against Father Time, which is why the winner below is recommended to use underneath this moisturizing beauty product.
Anti-Aging Serum: Olay Regenerist Regenerating Serum might sound a bit redundant, but not only is it highly recommended by dermatologists, it has also been a top pick with Glamour readers three times. Why? Simply, “it works.”
Hairspray from L’Oréal Paris: This one was hard to swallow because not only is the Long Island Beauty Lookbook Examiner a beauty writer, but also a licensed hairstylist, and as such, only recommends professional brands. The fact that readers’ claimed Elnet Satin Hairspray Strong Hold is a “backstage staple” made it difficult to believe it was a “readers’ choice.” Because really, how many readers are backstage? It is also the first year it has won a Glammy.
Nail Polish: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure rounds out Glamour’s top eight best beauty products as chosen by its readers. The three-time winner is “chip-resistant,” available in a variety of colors and doesn’t require a base or topcoat.
