Premium chocolatier Lindt USA and Ashley Tisdale have joined together to introduce an exciting, new romantic comedy digital series: “It Started with Hello.” The series celebrates the national launch of Lindt HELLO, a sinfully delicious premium chocolate collection inspired by classic American treats. On Sept. 23, 2014 yeahstub.com had the opportunity to interview Ashely Tisdale exclusively about this new collaboration. “It Started with Hello” captures couples as they make their first connections and encourages viewers to find out what happens after “hello” by choosing their own ending to each story.
The series includes a teaser and four episodes, each embodying the cheeky personalities of the Lindt Hello Collection. The teaser launched on The Platform, introducing the cast and previewing the series. The remaining episodes will debut every Thursday until Oct. 9. Ashley teamed up with Lindt to co-produce the first episode (including reviewing scripts, wardrobe and set design), titled “Office Mates.” The episode brings together two young professionals who work in adjacent offices and begin a unique relationship after funny office window run-ins. Can you talk about your collaboration with Lindt and how it came about?
Ashley Tisdale: Yeah, they had actually come to me with the idea of what they were doing with the web series and the new collection of the Lindt Hello and I was super excited to get involved with it. I’ve never produced a web series before. so it’s just something that I was excited to do and be a part of.
Can you talk about the new line Lindt Hello?
Lindt Hello has this cool, quirky packaging … in the episodes, we involved all of that into the background and colors. They’re all super tasty. I was excited because I got a lot of chocolates, so it was pretty awesome.
Can you talk about producing and how it was for you?
I love producing. I’ve had my company Blondie Girl Productions for about six years now and it’s just always fun to be part of the process in such different ways than just being in front of the camera. This is my first time producing a web series; I had no idea how it was going to go, but it was so much fun. I grew up doing commercials and being a part of something like this, it was really cool. For me as a producer, I like to critique. I am really tuned into acting, since I’m an actress. I am able to be like “oh, let’s do it this way, let’s do it that way” so, that was the big thing for me. I love being a part of the script, the wardrobe and just being on set that day and watching it come to life was so much fun.
What would you say is the biggest challenge about producing?
The biggest challenge of producing specifically is getting something done. There’s always stuff in development. I have tons of shows – scripted and unscripted and even movies where you just want something to come to life … because there are so many other things that haven’t happened.
Did you learn anything new about yourself working as a producer?
Over the years, I had a producing partner at one point and she was really helpful because she was teaching me the ways. The reason why I wanted to get into producing was because I love being creative in other directions and I love coming up with ideas. I think I learned over the years, who I am as a producer and what my voice is and to trust myself. Really, It’s just about trusting myself and it’s been really great.
What do you love most about the concept of the series?
I felt like it was really cool to have everybody kind of contribute to something. Also, the episode I produced called “Office Space,” it was about connects and I definitely know how to relate to that. I always try to find something I can relate to in everything that I do and I love the idea of two people finding their first connection with a Lindt Hello.
You’re very well known for your role in “High School Musical.” Are there going to be any more musicals for you in the future?
I don’t know. I am definitely not opposed to doing musical movies. I am super excited to be doing my sitcom “Buzzy’s” because I have not done a sitcom in so long but it’s not like I’m not open to musicals.
Can you talk about upcoming projects that you have in the works?
I have the TV series “Buzzy’s” coming out in June on TBS, which I am super excited about.
