Huge! Highlighted and underlined. Is the one word description that I had jotted down in my notebook. The field museum fits that description well. As you stand in line at the ticket counter you slowly take in the wide hall and let your eyes settle on the fossil remains of the T.rex named Sue at the other end.
Stopping to stare at the map of the museum, I decided to begin with taking pictures of the Stanely Field Hall, located on the main level. Sue looms over head and I stop to take in her presence. This Tyrannosaurus Rex is a world famous fossil. Sue as it is named is the largest, best-preserved, and most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex ever found. She measures 42 feet long from snout to tail and 13 feet tall at the hip. She boasts 58 dagger-like teeth in her replica skull. Sue’s original skull is on display in the upper balcony and weighs just 600lbs . I have always wanted to see this T.rex in all it’s glory and there I stood before her, smiling.
The Field museum is an all day attraction and bare minimum six hours to explore. While I did not get to see all of the field museum I know that there is only so much you can explore and remember.
I have broken up this article into several parts so that each exhibit I viewed gets it’s own article.
My top five exhibit picks are
1. The Hall of Dinosaurs
2. Evolving planet exhibit
3. Hall of jade
4. The Ancient Americas
5. Inside ancient Egypt.
