On Tuesday night’s installment of “Face Off” the nine remaining make up artists were met by McKenzie Westmore on the deck of the retired battleship USS Iowa, and informed that their spotlight challenge would be to celebrate G.I. Joe’s 50th anniversary and the winning make up will be feature as a new soldier in the collection. The design however, would need to be based on a snake that they would chose from crates that McKenzie revealed to them.
Cig chose the Christmas Tree Eyelash Viper; Drew got Tiger Rat Snake; Rachael picked Green Tree Pyton; Damien chose Gaboon Viper; George decided on Green Anaconda; Dina chose Rainbow Boa; Stella opted for the Namibian Coral Cobra; Sasha decided on the Hognosed Snake and by the way, Sasha was saved by the judges last week as they decided to use their only save on her, consequently, she felt a additional obligation to excel on this challenge; and Keaghlan got the Albino Reticulated Python.
The sketching and molding periods during the challenge were tense and tested the make up artists on many levels, Stella chose a model for her make up, but during molding received news that the model had fallen ill with strep throat and due to time constraints, did not have time to remold for a new model, therefore had to go along with what she had, and thus make the mold designed for someone fit the new model, something she feared would put her in the bottom. Cig at first decided to make his soldier a female form, however, upon getting a turn for the molds, realized all the female models were gone, and therefore needed to rethink the whole concept, this time using a male model. Sasha on the other hand feeling added pressure, from the get go seemed flustered and not sure about anything in her design.
Then it was time for the Reveal Stage and judges to observe the designs and study them carefully, first up was Cig and his design was colorful and detailed, and he was at the top; Drew’s which seemed more like a man wearing make up, but not as actual snake, also received praise for his make up; Rachael’s seemed incomplete and overall not well thought out and she was at the bottom; Damien’s was outstanding with snake like feature and did indeed appeared as a super soldier, he was safe for another week; George’s was well thought out and also looked as a tough soldier and one any army would want on their side, he was also safe for another week; Dina’s was sleek, sexy, and at the same time tough and a soldier to be reckon with, she also was at the top; Stella’s was indeed reminiscent of a snake and had the overall appearance of a warrior, and she was safe for another week; Sasha’s looked a lot like a previous make up she had done based on the bird challenge where she created an owl make up, she was not successful and wound up at the bottom; and Keaghlan’s was not at all snake like and appeared to be missing work and imagination throughout.
Then it was time to reveal the winner and this was Dina, who was given high marks for an original and beautiful make up, and from those at the bottom ultimately Keaghlan was eliminated for her missing the mark on the entire concept and although she has done great work, unfortunately on Tuesday night she could not be saved.
