Saturday, October 11, 2014: Curiosity and chatting with others is on today’s agenda. Circulate, have fun and enjoy the comradery, but be careful not to take everything you hear as fact. Remember, the further you get away from the original source of information the more elusive facts become.
Gossip is a game played by children. In this game a group of children sit in a circle… the first kid starts the game by whispering a simple message into the next kid’s ear. This continues around the circle… one kid whispering what they believe or imagine they’d heard into the ear of the next… until the last kid announces the message s/he heard aloud. When the final message is compared to the original message, laughter often erupts when the kids realize how much the final message has morphed from the original.
This game is meant to help youngsters understand why it is unacceptable to gossip. But it also reveals the fact that information… both written and spoken… may not be exactly accurate. Facts change the more a story is told. Of course some people are careful to get the information right, but others aren’t. Each person filters information according to their own biases and beliefs… people hear what they want to hear, filter out the rest and then pass on to others what they believe they’ve heard or read.
Although everyone is in the mood to talk today… facts and details will be elusive and less important than dreams. Which could make it challenging to distinguish between what’s true and what’s not. So as best you can don’t misinterpret what others say or do, try your best to make sure you’re understood… and don’t gossip. Perhaps the best way to handle the day could be to turn down the volume a bit and escape into a good movie or two, because it’s for sure you’ll function your best in an atmosphere that encourages dreams and fantasy.
I believe in everything until it’s disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it’s in your mind. Who’s to say that dreams and nightmares aren’t as real as the here and now? ~ John Lennon
