All aboard for a fun, family-friendly outing that lets you celebrate the Fall season with all its leaves ablaze with color as you journey on a 22 mile round trip through the countryside on the Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad departing from Nelsonville, Ohio.
Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad Fall Foliage Tours Offered every Thursday and Friday between October 2 and October 24 at 1 p.m. and every Saturday and Sunday in October (noon and 2:30 p.m.) from the Nelsonville Depot, these Fall Foliage excursions take you on a train ride along the historic Hocking River Valley.
Each excursion includes a full on-board narration educating passengers about the area’s history, sites along the way and the history of the train itself.
Also included in the excursion is a 30 minute stop at historic Robbins Crossing, a small pioneer village depicting life in an 1840’s southeastern Ohio community located on the campus of Hocking College.
Costumed interpreters will share some historical information and give visitors a look at life in the 19th century- era town that consists of original log cabins, a general store, a one-room schoolhouse, a blacksmith shop, a cooper shop, a barn and a pottery station. Visitors will get to see real clothing, tools and household goods once used by settlers in the Hocking Valley.
Seating on the Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad is on a first come, first served basis. Passengers have the choice of riding in an air conditioned car, two open-air cars or enclosed coaches with no air conditioning. The train excursion lasts approximately 2 hours, 15 minutes.
The Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad is suggesting that you arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure times ( 1 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and noon or 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday). Cost for the Fall Foliage train excursion is $17 for adults, $15 for seniors and $12 for children. Because these excursions usually sell out, it is recommended that you make advance reservations.
