It was a successful sold out show as over 1400 concert goers came out to be entertained by the hottest Filipino entertainers from the Philippines Tom Rodriguez, Carla Abellana, Juile Anne San Jose, Betong Sumaya and Miguel Tanfelix for the GMA Network / GMA Pinoy TV’s “Kapusong Pinoy Sa LA” concert held at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center in Redondo Beach, CA
Attendees came all the way from places like Porterville, CA, Las Vegas and as far away as Tennessee just to get a glimpse of the talented entertainers from the one the biggest televions networks in Philippines, GMA Network and GMA Pinoy TV. Tom Rodriguez’s family also made a 8 hour trek from Arizona to support their famous brother.
The concert show commenced with games along with opening acts by local talent Jaron Liclican, Mika Gorospe, and Macrae Decena. These artists helped get the crowd hyped for the main acts. Interestingly, Mika Gorospe’s sidekick Isiah Galban, garnered the most excitement from the crowd as the young boy “sashayed” and danced alongside Mika.
The main show began with Antoniete (Betong Sumaya) greeting the fans a typical diva hello his character is known for. Once he made the crowd laugh with his comedic spiel, Julie Anne San Jose took the stage to excite the crowd with her breathtaking voice. Young actor Miguel Tanfelix joined San Jose for a lighthearted dance number.
The Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center got hotter as one of the hottest on screen and possibly off screen “love team” of Tom Rodriguez and Carla Abellana (“My Destiny,” “My Husband’s Lover”) took the stage. The duo was able to hold their own and keep the audience captivated with their singing and playful banter. As hundreds were excited to see the couple on stage, many hope that they would official say there were an item or kiss on stage. There was a moment as fans were on the edge of the seat as the twosome sang “So It’s You” and ending the song with a near kiss as their foreheads met the a hug. The crowd had to make do with Tom kissing Carla on the cheek.
During a little break in the show, Betong Sumaya and Tom Rodriguez hosted a segment that showcased Tom’s new TV game show he “Don’t Lose The Money.” Two couples in the audience participated in the game. The couple had to put a stack of money between their foreheads and walk together 50 feet to a bin in which they were to drop the stash of cash without using their hands. The crowd got into the game as they cheered on the couples. With the debut of his game show, could this mean Tom may become the future Ryan Seacrest of the Philippines?
As the show winded down to its end, the Filipino artists kept the energy alive with an audience participation number in which the concert goers were encouraged to get up out of their seats and following along in a dance move they were taught earlier before the show by Filipino legendary dancer/choreographer Geleen Eugenio.
After the show, a meet and greet was held with the celebrities that lasted over an hour as the majority of concert goers took photos and received autographs from Tom, Carla, Julie Ann, Betong and Miguel. Being Betong’s first time to perform live and visit the United States, it was a reunion for him as he also had a personal meet and greet with his grandmother and relatives he hadn’t seen for a long time.
Tom Rodriguez had his own family reunion has his family waited patiently to welcome him back to the United States and have some bonding time with them. Toms brother, Walter and William Mott are so happy for the success of his brother. Even Walter’s fiancee Andrea, finally realized how big a star his soon to be brother-in-law is after watching the show. The two brothers experienced a little bit of the fame as fans flocked to the Mott brothers for photos after finding out they were Tom’s brothers.
The group heads back to the the Philippines in the coming days for the work and grind of being A-list celebrities in the island nation.
