Knowing and understanding your BODY TYPE can improve your chances of finding the best dress for you. There are 7 shapes that we women come in the first is triangular where women are smaller up top but have rounded hips. The second is the inverted triangle which is the exact opposite of the triangular shape consisting of having smaller hips and a wider bust, the next shape is the rectangular one where one would have square shoulders lined up with their hips. Diamond shape is the fourth body type where the waist is wider than the hips and bust/shoulders, tubular shapes are long and thin with no curves. The last two shapes are rounded, having a full figure with a full bust, waist and hips, and lastly is the hour glass a shape that some women want where the waist is small and the hips and bust are full.
Being aware of your shape will increase your ability to enhance your assets and hide your problem areas. In most cases when we look in the mirror we only think of ways to hide what we think are our imperfections rather than focus on what our favorites are and embrace that. So it makes it hard to shop for gowns that accentuate our figures.
In order to learn your shape look in a full length mirror with nothing but your bra and panty, and if you are a triangle shape then the best look for you would be something strapless or halter that is fitted at the hips and flares out at the bottom. Look for mermaid/trumpet styles while shopping for your gowns. If your stomach is not as flat as a board ask for something that has gathers in that area and that works for all shapes!
If you are an inverted triangle then your best look would be anything that is full up at the hip to balance out your hips and shoulders. If you have a rectangular figure you should look for corset styles that taper in the waist area. Now don’t panic you will still be able to breath, this look will just create an illusion of a more defined waist. If you are looking in a mirror and your mid-section is wider than your hips and shoulders you are considered a diamond shape. To enhance your look go for anything strapless or halter that has a corset to pull in your mid-section to draw out your shoulders and define your waist. To bring out your hips just make sure that it has some detailing in that area such as the bustle effect. (the bustle effect is the new trend of wedding gowns that has the bubble spots along the gown)
If you are tubular then your best look would be anything strapless with pin tucks to enhance your hips and some major detailing at the bottom. Now if you are rounded this means your shoulders, hips and midsection line up but it looks more like a circle than a straight line. The look you want to go for is anything strapless no halter styles at all! Along with the strapless, you can go two ways the first is a flare style that just skims the body or option two a style that has corset detailing that gives a V image and then flares at the bottom. If your hips and shoulders line up and your waist is tiny then you have an hour glass shape and you should definitly go for styles that shows your shape! Such as strapless and halter and that hugs and fishtails out on the bottom.
Now that you know and your shape and styles that will enhance your assets and hide your problem areas finding that perfect dress just became easier!
