I have officially dubbed Black Out Tour as the Christian hip hop tour of 2014. Last night’s tour came to a grand finale in Miami, FL which featured raving performances from Christian hip hop recording artists Da’ T.R.U.T.H., FLAME, KB, Thi’sl, along with newly signed V. Rose and TJ Pompeo.
This is the Black Out Tour’s second successful year including stops in St. Louis (MO), Louisville (KY), Seattle (AZ) and San Bernardino (CA).
The evening commenced with a VIP meet and greet session with rap artists and fans. The session was transparent and informative as the artists addressed questions about managing their music careers and family life, as well as advice for the newly saved who have been drawn by the ministry of Christian hip hop music. The common thread is that many of the artists are also active in their own churches and have completed studies in theology and ministry.
The concert was eclectic, drawing hundreds of fans of all ages and cultures. Sounds of hip hop, rap, pop, EDM (electronic dance music) and neon lights were infused into the event at Central Bible Church. There was never a dull moment between high energy hip hop beats and surprise spray attacks with super soaker-sized water guns. Yeah, I said it. Artists were subject to sporadic prank sprays throughout the evening on stage during their performances.
After opening acts Da’ T.R.U.T.H. started off the show followed by Thi’sl. Thi’sl had the crowd jumping, singing “You can take my life, you can take my life… “. ” Take My Life” feat. FLAME and Json, is one of his hit songs off his newly released album Fallen King. “Take My Life” addresses the rise of global persecution against Christians and provides encouragement and support.
The highlight of the evening was KB’s high energy set keeping the crowd jumping with hits “100” and “Zone Out”.I have never seen a stage performance so intense words cannot describe.
FLAME was the culminating factor of the evening featuring songs from his recent and 7th album, “Royal Flush”. In my interview with Flame he describes the concept behind “Royal Flush”.
Beyond the well know christian hip hop artists, the event featured an appearance from TJ Pompeo, a new artist signed under Da’ T.R.U.T.H. ‘s label Mixed Bag . He delivers lyrics with lightning speed and delves in pop singing to the likes of Justin Timberlake. Twenty two year old V. Rose, signed under FLAME’s label, Clear Sight, also performed some of her hit songs off her newly released album, “Forever After”. “Am I Trending” discusses social media’s influence on our attempts to be popular and approved by society. She transitioned into worship and gave a stunning vocal performance singing “Dear Adam”.
