Fox hosts should really keep their Ray Rice jokes to themselves. Banter between hosts this morning on the early morning show Fox & Friends sunk to a new low after co-host Brian Kilmeade trumped the other tasteless comments with a snarky doozy that has immediately offended. Speaking of celebrity domestic violence cases and the suspended (and now ex-Baltimore Ravens player) Ray Rice, Kilmeade essentially said the message to Rice’s beaten wife is: Take the stairs.
Video of Ray Rice beating his fiancé (now his wife) in a casino elevator in February was recently released by celeb gossip site TMZ. The video shows Rice cold-cocking Janay Palmer in an Atlantic City casino elevator. The emergence of this video created huge ripples against both Rice and the NFL, which initially tagged Rice over the summer with only a two game suspension. However, after the video was released, the Baltimore Ravens canned Rice, and the NFL placed him under “indefinite” suspension.

Says the Washington Post: “But at least the folks at Fox & Friends,’ easily cable news’s most idiotic program, can mine it for a laugh or two. After running through the details of the assault this morning, co-host Brian Kilmeade joked, ‘I think the message is, take the stairs.’”
Steve Doocy added his own dim-witted attempt at humor: “The message is, when you’re in an elevator, there’s a camera.”
That most certainly is not the message. The message is that domestic violence is reprehensible, and Rice deserved an indefinite suspension for his brutal behavior — not to mention the full weight of the law — and deserved it when TMZ first brought the incident to light back in February. – Ben Rohrbach, Yahoo Sports
Both men trotted out their insensitive domestic violence jokes in front of their female co-host, Anna Kooiman.
Per The NY Daily News:
After reading serious tweets and emails sent from viewers, the Fox News hosts, Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade, segued into other celebrity-involved incidents of domestic violence. The men condemned both Rice’s now-wife, Janay Palmer, and singer Rihanna for “sending a terrible message” by staying with men who had abused them.
And the men, sitting on either side of co-host Anna Kooiman, then discussed the Solange and Jay Z incident also caught on camera in an elevator.
Doocy then continues the absurd jokes, transitioning from the thank-God-it’s-over segment with: “And there’s a camera right now on Heath Nauert, who’s got the headlines,” he says.
