On what would have been Ray Charles 84th birthday, ‘GEORGIA ON MY MIND: Celebrating the Music of Ray Charles’ held its Grand Opening in the Venetian Theatre on Tuesday night, September 23.
Prior the show, there was a reception at db Brasserie where invited guests including media and celebrities were treated to a selection of appetizers and cocktails.
Among the red carpet arrivals were: prop comedian Carrot Top, singing quartet Human Nature, Zowie Bowie, Rock of Ages cast members Mark Shunock, Justin Mortelliti, Tiffany Engen and Becca Kotte; dancer/choreographer Jennifer Romas, comedy magician Mac King, celebrity magician Murray Sawchuck and his wife Fantasy dancer Chloe Louise Crawford; Douglas “Lefty” Leferovich; singer/impressionist Bob Anderson; Gladys Night’s pip, Bubba Knight; cast members of Panda!; several dancers from FANTASY!; singer Frankie Moreno; Absinthe’s Melody Sweets; artist Michael Godard; Miss Chinese Las Vegas, Elisa Chan; chef David Middleton; BMX star Ricardo Laguna; The Naked Magician, Jason Baney; Jersey Boys Travis Cloer; and A Capella group Mo5aic.
‘GEORGIA ON MY MIND: Celebrating the Music of Ray Charles’ stars an ensemble cast of award winning artist performing hits that we love by the late genius of American music, whose songs were a unique blend of gospel, R&B, blues, jazz, and lots of soul.
Acting as host and featured performer was award winning singer and entertainer Clint Holmes, who was joined on stage by 10-time Grammy award-winning vocal group TAKE 6, 6-time Grammy nominee and DownBeat Vocalist of the Year Nnenna Freelon, Stella Gospel Award and Grammy award-winning saxophone star Kirk Whalum, special guests the Las Vegas Mass Choir, under the direction of James R. Smith and Edie Aikels, backed by the Las Vegas All-Star Big Band, under the direction of pianist and conductor, David Loeb.

The artists in this performance have a combined 11 Grammys, and Vegas’ own Clint Holmes is making his return to the Las Vegas Strip after eight years. This is a celebration of the genius Ray Charles and an evening with GEORGIA ON MY MIND will be a night to remember.”
