Every year Girl Scouts of Orange County hosts a fun and informative event for leaders and organizations that supports Girl Scout activities. It’s called the August Kick Off and it’s the perfect time for leaders to take classes that help them be better or just more creative leaders and to meet organizations in our community that host activities that the girls might want to do! I went to the August Kick Off for years and then got a table of my own. If you’ve read me before you know that I helped take Girl Scouting to Mozambique Africa – so we have a table that supports the effort to help an orphanage there through a great non-profit called Caring For Orphans- Mozambique. This year I am bringing CFO information and zombies there too! I will be telling people about my Emergency Preparedness/Zombie Apocalypse Event.
Here is the information about the event from the Girl Scouts of Orange County website. “Enjoy a day of networking, informative workshops and community exhibitors to help you get the most out of your Girl Scout year! The August Kick Off will be held on August 16 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the UC Irvine Student and Event Center. Registration includes a light breakfast, Product Sale Preview & Tasting, GSOC & Community Exhibitors, and your choice of three workshops (workshop descriptions. For an additional $7 you may pre-order a lunch (optional). Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to choose what you what to learn about, to speak with GSOC staff, and to mingle and share ideas with other leaders.”
“The keynote speaker will be Dr. Jacqueline McLaughlin, an Associate Professor of Biology at Pennsylvania State University – Lehigh Valley, and Founding Director of Penn State’s award-winning international professional development and environmental education outreach program – CHANCE (Connecting Humans And Nature through Conservation Experiences.) It’s more important than ever that girls develop STEM skills – whether they pursue a career in STEM or not. Dr. McLaughlin will share her insights into how volunteers can create impactful and fun STEM experiences for girls to develop their ingenuity, creativity, and critical thinking skills as they explore and navigate the world around them. You’ll be inspired to foster your girls’ passion for STEM – whether you’re leading your girls through the “It’s Your Planet – Love It!” journey series or other badge or program activities at any level.”
