While Labor Day is seen as the end of summer, it’s not over yet. And one summer activity that can continue long after summer is over, is grilling, if you don’t mind using an electric grill.
The George Foreman 15-Serving Removable Plate Indoor/Outdoor Grill is one of many options. It’s also good for places where you’re not allowed to use propane or charcoal grills.
To be honest, it doesn’t take the place of the unique smell and taste of barbecue from a charcoal grill, but it is less messy, healthier and you can grill inside during the winter months.
The George Foreman 15-Serving Grill has a double non-stick cooking surface, so there’s no need for oil, though using cooking spray before heating the grill, makes for easier cleaning. There’s a temperature control for multiple grilling temperatures, a center channel to catch run-off grease and liquids (and a tray to catch it). The grill can be used on the stand or on a tabletop or countertop, provided it is heat resistant and can withstand up to 150 degrees.
Another advantage over standard grills is that it cooks quickly. Tilapia filets took only three minutes and were moist and cooked through. You can control the moisture of the food by opening or closing the lid vent. Another good thing is the handle and lid don’t seem to get hot. (Though the instructions warn that condensation may collect on the inside of the lid when cooking, so you still need to be careful when lifting and removing it.)
The grill is also easy to assemble and to clean. Note: You can only use wooden or plastic utensils and you can’t use metallic scrubbing pads, steel wood or abrasive cleansers, but there was no problem with cleaning the grill with a sponge and soapy water.
The only con is that it feels a little wobbly on the stand, so you do have to be careful not to bump it, as it could easily fall over.
