“If you haven’t been to the Freeland Habitat Store lately, you are missing out on a variety of new and used building supplies at great prices,” says store manager, Corinne Rouse-Kay. “In addition, we are a great place to shop for affordable, gently used appliances, as well as an excellent selection of furniture.” As a matter of fact, they just won “Best Furniture Store” in the Best of Whidbey reader’s choice awards.
The building supply area includes doors, windows, cabinets, bath fixtures, lighting, flooring, paint, hardware, tile and tools. Many of the items can be recycled into new uses such as light fixtures, displays, furniture or artwork.
Corinne adds, “The response to this store has surpassed all of our expectations, and this community is so very generous with donations; they just keep pouring in. There’s everything from antiques to mid-century modern furniture and even the kitchen sink.” The store inventory turns over quickly with new items hitting the sales floor every day.
The sales staff notices regular customers who cruise through the store often to pick up the best deals. The store sells gently used furniture including couches, recliners, dining sets, office furniture, bedroom sets, book shelves, mattresses, lamps, artwork and more.
Thanks to the Habitat Store, a significant number of usable cabinets, sinks, doors and windows has been kept out of landfills. As a matter of fact, the Freeland Habitat Store has kept 1.25 million lbs. of reusable items out of the land fill. Proceeds from the store support Habitat for Humanity of Island County’s home building projects and its mission to end poverty housing throughout Whidbey and Camano Island.
The success of the store is dependent upon donations, volunteers and buyers. “We are especially concerned about recruiting more volunteers who are needed to handle the overwhelming variety of tasks at the store” says Corinne. If you are interested volunteering, call the store at 360 331-6272360 331-6272 or email email@example.com.
