Halloween haunts, spooky spiders, ghostly ghouls with zombies rushing out to capture your soul before you leave the trail of the tour guide you’ve clung to since the start of your journey. Tangled webs with flashing lights, screams of murders from years before light the dark wooded pathway to your darkest fears. Scared? Well you should be!
Each year the “Haunted Woods” located in Zionsville, Pa has been holding its spook-tacular event each Halloween to raise funds for the Bethlehem Special Olympics of Pa. The fundraiser boasts a scary trail waiting for you to enter at your own risk, if you dare to take the hand of your tour guide and follow her into the dark foreboding woods.
Many ghosts and goblins await your presence to try and capture on the trails windy path through the enchanted Forrest that could have no return for you once entering. Zombies and vampires that have lurked in the woods for centuries find their way to participate in the fun of scaring you to death!
What the hosts have to tell us about the charity; “The Bethlehem Special Olympics which is an organization that helps out people of all ages with varying degrees of mental disability. 100 percent of the money we raise goes to this charity so come out and get scared to support some great causes! Up a long, bumpy gravel road in Zionsville, there’s a spook-tacular home.”
“Tombstones dot the front lawn as various creepy inflatables dance in the wind, beckoning you — no, daring you — to come in for a closer look. Campy jack-o’-lantern lights illuminate the yard, belying what scares are in store for those who venture into the woods behind the home.”
“ There will be a DJ at the Haunted Woods every Saturday in October. Come out and support the Haunted Woods Zionsville!
The Haunted Woods is a walk through guided tour in the spooky backwoods of Zionsville.
No flashlights are allowed in the woods!!!
Spooky music did accompany the terrifying walk through the woods adding to the excitement and drama of the haunt!
Directors of the haunt from the Bethlehem Special Olympics were excited about this year’s event and the outcome, as they are every year and at every event. Both were happy about the turnout and the start of the holiday season with more fundraisers just around the corner.
Alice Moat of Bethlehem SOPA also states, “There are more exciting fundraisers to come along, such as the Christmas Party in December and the 2nd Annual Lehigh Valley Polar Plunge to Benefit Special Olympics at the Delaware River. “
The goals of the fundraisers for Bethlehem SOPA; “The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.”
Heaven knows the best way to kick off this holiday season of fundraisers is with a thrilling haunted walk through the deeps woods on top of a dark mystical mountain. The cost is $7 per person and children under the age of 9 are not recommended to attend the event as it is dark and scary! On site donations are welcomed as well.
The excitement of the haunted trail equals the excitement and joy in seeing the caring of the community in helping those with special needs prepare for and attend events they might not otherwise have had a chance to do. Let’s keep supporting the Bethlehem SOPA!
I know my family and I will be back and ready for the haunted trail next year, will you?
