Hiawayi Robinson murder case: Prichard police are still looking for the person responsible for killing a missing Alabama girl who was later found murdered. Hiawayi Robinson was found dead on September 18, 2014. According to a report today by WKRG News-5, the cause of death was suffocation. She was missing for two days before law enforcement officials found her body. Little 8-year-old Hiawayi Robinson, who was listed in the first news reports as Haiwaya Robinson, Haiwayi Robinson and Haiwai Robinson, vanished after leaving her apartment to go visit a family member who lived in the same apartment complex, according to Fox-10.
Hiawayi Robinson Timeline 2014: Tuesday, September 16: At around 4:30 p.m., Hiawayi D’iland Robinson leaves her home at the St. Stephens Woods Apartments located at 3425 St Stephens Rd in Mobile to visit a family member who lived in the same facility. According to the family, Hiawayi Robinson never arrives. A missing person’s report is filed by her family late Tuesday evening. Additionally, an alert is issued by the Alabama Department of Public Safety that 8-year-old Haiwayi Robinson of Prichard has disappeared.
Missing poster flyers show that Hiawayi Robinson is a black female child with neatly braided hair adorned with clear beads. She was last seen wearing purple shorts and a green and white Hello Kitty shirt. She stands 3 ft. tall and weighs 45 pounds.
Wednesday, September 17: At 7 a.m., Friends, family and a number of volunteers organize a search for missing 8-year-old Hiawayi Robinson, a student at Collins-Rhodes Elementary School. At 8 a.m., a prayer vigil is scheduled for the missing girl.
Thursday, September 18: At around 12 p.m., the body of Hiawayi Robinson is found on the side of a road not far from her home by Public Works employee Johnny Williams.
“I was coming off main street, I was telling me the guy who was with me I was going to check Rebel road, and I seen the little girl lying on the ground.() We called 911, she was dead.”
Family members and volunteers hug one another and cry as the scene is processed, according to Alabama NBC-13. Robert Bentley, Alabama governor, makes the following comments, leaving members of the community enraged.
“There are things that happen we just don’t understand. There are difficulties in families. You never know, it may be drug related, it may be alcohol related. It may be family problems. We just don’t know what the situation is.”
Alabama State Senator Vivian Davis Figures is outraged by the comments and demands an apology. Robert Bentley offers a reward of $5,000 toward the death investigation of Hiawayi Robinson.
Hiawayi Populus Robinson’s funeral is set for Friday, September, 26, 2014, at Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church in Prichard, with Christian Benevolent Funeral Home presiding, according to information released by Local-15.
