Maryland hasn’t been very kind to top Democrats recently. Two weeks ago, President Barack Obama had many persons in his audience file out the door during his speech, and his former secretary of state Hillary Clinton – who allegedly may have her eye on Obama’s job in 2016 – was heckled repeatedly on Thursday, according to a Politico report on Thursday night. As the story goes, Clinton was campaigning at a rally in College Park at the University of Maryland when more than a dozen dreamers – or pro immigrant activists – interrupted her with a number of protests that lasted for practically the entire duration of her presentation.
The protesters who showed up at the University of Maryland rally were from a group called United We Dream. They did a decent job of disrupting Clinton’s push to get Anthony Brown elected, said CBS News. Anthony Brown is Maryland’s Democratic lieutenant governor who is now the state’s gubernatorial hopeful. He was also the politician being championed by President Barack Obama two weeks ago when members of the audience disrespectfully hit the door as the president spoke.
Clinton supporters did their best to help the former first lady weather the storm of protests, according to MSNBC. Her student supporters inside the Ritchie Coliseum at the University of Maryland chanted “Hillary! Hillary!” in a failed effort to squelch the protesters. When another group started protesting again, the supportive students reportedly booed at them. Naturally, between the protesting, the chanting of “Hillary! Hillary!” and the booing, Clinton’s speech was majorly disrupted.
This was not the first time the Dreams popped up at a Clinton event. Approximately a week ago, Mrs. Clinton was disrupted as she spoke in North Carolina. There, she was pushing for votes for Sen. Kay Hagan. At that event, the Dreamer-activists asserted that they were mistreated by officials as they were basically thrown out by the authorities.
Clinton was supposed to do a fundraiser with Brown last month but she cancelled out, according to WJLA-TV which is an ABC affiliate. She backed out of that event because her daughter Chelsea had given birth to Hillary’s first grandchild and she wanted to spend time with her granddaughter. In her place, her husband – former President Bill Clinton – attended the fundraiser.
The deal with the Dreamers is that they are extremely disgruntled with the slow movement on immigration in the United States. They are very displeased with Obama – and they are doing their best to let Hillary Clinton know that they expect more from her if she plans to get anywhere in the 2016 presidential race – should she finally say she’s running. Clinton stated last month that she will decide on whether she will run or not in early 2015, according to Inquisitr. By her appearance in Iowa recently and her continual presence in public, some believe the writing is on the wall and that she most definitely will be trying to get to the Oval Office again.
