We hear stories every day about average people achieving incredible results in a wide variety of arenas. Some of the most successful entrepreneurs who come from humble beginnings have varied stories, but common struggles and means of survival. Being extraordinary is not birth-given right. It is something you have to activate within yourself… you mindset, your actions, your belief. The only thing that keeps you from being extraordinary, is you.
Ordinary business owners achieve extraordinary results by being attentive to their purpose.
We all have a purpose for being here. How you tune into and embrace that purpose could set the foundation for your success or have you aimlessly wandering from one career, project, location or relationship to another. When you fail to acknowledge, understand and leverage your unique contribution to the world, you invite distractions, heartache and poor habits to overwhelm your thoughts and efforts to live a life of meaning and purpose.
Sometimes we mistake our passion for our purpose. However, passion can wane and be redirected. Purpose is what drives you. It is innate and intrinsic. It supercedes passion. When things get hard, connecting to your purpose is what will sustain you and give you that “fire in your belly” that you need to push through. It will be that voice that reassures you and provides you with the direction you need.
Ordinary business owners achieve extraordinary results by developing a set of standards by which to exercise their purpose.
Being clear about your purpose drives your principles; your core beliefs and guiding precepts. Your principles are YOUR “golden rules.” YOU live by them, personally and professionally. How do you incorporate your principles in relationship to your family, friends, associates, clients, your community, your supply chain, your staff, your colleagues and the environment? When you take this holistic view, your personal code of ethics and core values become fundamental. You operate and live by a single mindset. Not a personal mindset and a professional mindset, just one mindset that integrates your purpose and principles.
Contrary to popular belief, entrepreneurs don’t have a private life. We have one body, one mind. They need to be united at all times. What you do professionally affects you, personally. And what you do personally, affects you professionally. Who you are and what you believe should be represented in all that you do, say, support and practice.
Ordinary business owners achieve extraordinary results when their purpose and principles determine their priorities.
With a purpose and set of guiding principles you can readily determine your priorities; the “what” of things you need to be doing to manifest your purpose and achieve your ultimate objectives and goals. Priorities are kept at the forefront and take precedence over things that take your eye off the prize; the myriad of daily distractions. The constructive benefit of aligning your priorities with your purpose and principles is you readily make adjustments that keep you on the right track. Your ability to put first things, first, makes it simple and practical to say, “no” to all that lies between you and your purpose and principles without guilt.
Ordinary business owners achieve extraordinary results with commitment and discipline
Something special happens when you align your purpose, priorities and principles with a collection of daily practices. With each passing day of living your purpose aligned with priorities and principles, you strengthen your confidence and resolve to contribute to something bigger than yourself. You become self-validated and empowered to live at a level that overrides insecurities, naysayers, fear and indecisiveness. There is a flow and rhythm to activities. There is clarity to your thoughts and an ease to your efforts. Not to say your world is perfect, but there is less friction. Your capacity to endure is fortified.
An ordinary business owner with an extraordinary mindset can achieve remarkable results. Just because your business is small doesn’t mean you have to think or operate like one. Ordinary people achieve greatness everyday. It’s starts in the mind and is made evident in their actions. Today, think deeper and bigger and make it happen.
