There are not that many places that are open to having adults in costume while at the office during Halloween. It could be the fake blood oozing onto important letters and contracts. It could be because the customers are unable to understand what in the world the agent is talking about because of the fangs in the mouth. And almost nobody takes “My Little Pony” ponies seriously. Below are some ideas to help.
I was inspired by an article by Vogue. No, I have not left being a Geek and turned to the dark side. It could actually help. They are female-centric, only one for males. There are two which might work at work: Daria where you need jacket, skirt, glasses and heavy combat-style boots and then Dorothy where you need a white blouse, light blue skirt, if not a basket a straw-like purse and of course, red shoes. And another article about office appropriate costumes.
Here are some of my ideas.
Geek or Nerd.
Typical gear – dark rimmed glasses that are taped at the area above the nose, for men a pocket protector. Other props could be a pencil behind the ear and a slide ruler but be careful with this. You may actually have to explain what a slide ruler is and how to use it. An abacus is not appropriate. If you are portraying Amy Farrah Fowler, you must carry around a Texas Instruments calculator.
Doctors or Nurses.
If you work in a hospital setting, you can easily blend in to your surroundings. Put on lab coat. Call yourself: Dr. Ben Casey, Dr. Jeffrey Geiger, Dr. Jack McNeil, Dr. Francesca Alberghetti, Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh, Dr. Mark Sloan, Dr. Doug Ross, Dr. Kerry Weaver, Dr. Monica Quartermaine, or Dr. Lesley Williams Webber among others.
As a sub-category and no scrubs, you can be a psychiatrist. Just dress conservatively, maybe a notepad: Dr. Robert “Bob” Hartley, Dr. Frasier Winslow Crane, Dr. Lilith Sternin, Dr. Charles Kroger, Dr. Leigh Sapien, Dr. Katharine Wyatt, Dr. Emil Skoda or Dr. George Huang.
Black suit, white shirt and red tie. Sweat a lot.
Wear a plaid flannel shirt, jeans and boots. Have a smile all the time. Point at yourself with a moving index finger at appropriate times.
Wear business casual – a jacket over a shell. The props are the important thing here. You have to bring in things like pumpkin spice pumpkin seeds, sloppy joes, or any 30-Minute Meal.
