This is the second part of my article on Revision for ICSE 2015 of the Literature Paper, and I will be discussing on how to revise the Poetry Section inside the classroom so that the children taking up the exam the coming year are thorough with all the poems as prescribed in the ICSE 2015 Paper II syllabus.
Once again the class is divided into 5 Groups depending upon the strength. Each group has picked up the chit containing the poem that they have to prepare their presentation on. They have been informed well in advance and the presentation had to be given in their Poetry Class.
Each member of the group has to go through the entire poem and has to be thorough with every section of the poem. Some of the sections include: The theme, the synopsis, the style, the critical appreciation and role play. The students are allowed to take help of their prescribed workbook and the Internet in case they come upon any additional information.
On the scheduled day each group takes their turn to present the poem in front of the class and their peers. Each member takes their turn to come up to the blackboard and explain each section covering the minute details. As the explanation is done the other students take down the notes. The explanation is done in the form of brainstorming, charts, blackboard work, tree diagrams, brain maps and many more such visual strategies so that it helps to remember better.
As the group present the revision assignment the other students might ask any doubt or query in case they face any problem in a particular section. It is the responsibility of the groups to solve the query. The role of the teacher here is to be a moderator to the presentation and intervene when the groups make any mistake or have any difficulty in explaining a particular section.
After the entire presentation, the group may do a role play on that poem so that it completes the presentation.
This type of revision brings about a confidence level among the students and they go through the books searching for minute details. This will help them to recall and revise the portions that they have already completed in the ninth standard as well as the tenth standard.
Only after the revision of all the ten poems, the teacher plans to work on the extracts given in the workbook. Writing out the answers and discussing the answers in very essential after the presentation as it helps the students to get used to writing out the answers in the ICSE style.
