The happiest day of their life turned to tragedy as a doctor and nurse newlywed couple were found dead in their home from gunshot wounds. The groom shot and killed the bride then took off to the basement, where he was later found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was found by a robotic device police sent into the basement to scope out the situation, according to CNN News on Oct. 9.
Dr. George Scott Samson and Kelly Ecker were married this weekend and while the festivities were delightful, the couple seemed almost estranged through the entire affair, according to guests. After the wedding a few friends went over to the bride and groom’s home, but again the two barely acknowledged each other on their wedding day.
The first sign of trouble was a 911 call received from the bride, the first of several to come into the police emergency line. Each call had Kelly demonstrating signs of distress and each call had that distress escalating. She was calling 911 as police were making their way to the residence after receiving the first call.
MSN News reports that the cops were delayed in getting there because she gave the wrong address on the 911 call. This delayed the cops because they couldn’t find the home. Her last words were uttered on her last 911 call, “Oh God,” reports MSN.
The first call came in at 1:25 a.m. from Kelly, who only gave an address before the line goes dead. A minute later it was Kelly again saying “He is beating the s*** out of me” and then tells the 911 operator that “he has guns” and identifies Scott Samson by name. The third call came in at 1:27 a.m. and it was the last call. Kelly was in deep distress and she yells “Oh God” and the gunshots were heard.
When police arrived at the home an elderly male relative met the police at the door. He directed the police to the bedroom where Kelly’s body lay lifeless on the floor and her 10-year-old son was near his mother’s body. The boy was unhurt.
The elderly relative told cops that Sampson had run to the basement to get more ammunition. The cops quickly got the boy and the elderly man out of the house. The special response team then sent a robotic device equipped with a camera into the basement.
There they saw Sampson’s body lying on the floor near his gun safe and the bullet hole, which was self-inflicted, was seen on the camera. It was at this time that police determined he was dead. The gun safe where Sampson kept his guns had an elaborate collection.
Cops were still taking inventory of his guns into the middle of the week. An investigation into this murder-suicide continues. What happened on this couple’s wedding day to have the groom kill the bride and then kill himself?
