Child abuse is stealing our most innocent by people who can not control their actions due to anger, violence and rage. Like many childhood diseases, child abuse is claiming the lives of innocent children. Quickly becoming one of the largest epidemics in the United States. Statistics show a child is abused every 10 seconds and 5 children die each day due to abuse and neglect.
Today KFOX 14 reported a 3-year-old girl was placed into a medically induced coma after she was injured by her mother’s girlfriend.
Tuesday evening, a 3 year old girl was taken to an emergency center and was examined for a head trauma and bruises. After an investigation was completed, the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office discovered that earlier that morning the girl’s mother left her daughter in the care of her girlfriend, Yvette Pinon-Carbajal before leaving for work.
Officials reported, later that afternoon when the mother returned home, Pinon-Carbajal told her the child had “slipped in the bathtub and slept for most of the day.” After the child suffered a seizure, the pair rushed the toddler to the hospital.
The toddler was then transported to The El Paso Trauma Center and placed in a medically induced coma. An official representing The El Paso Trauma Center quickly evaluated the situation, discovered signs of abuse and alerted the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office of the child’s injuries.
Sheriff’s investigators said Pinon-Carbajal’s account of what happened to the toddler didn’t match the girl’s injuries and she was placed under arrest.
Officials stated, the toddler is reportedly in critical condition. Pinon-Carbajal has been booked into the county jail and her bail is set at $100,000. She has been formally charged with one count of child abuse resulting in great bodily harm. However, if the child does not survive the charges could be upgraded to murder.
Like Pinon-Carbajal, people that abuse and kill children have no remorse and they refuse to take responsibility for their actions. We need to stand up and speak for these children who can not speak for themselves. We need to be a voice for children and show the world that child abuse is punishable by law. We need to let people know it is not okay to abuse children.
