Tonight’s “Ink Master” presented the Rivals with “Pinup Pitfalls.” What is at stake is an editorial feature in Inked magazine, the monetary prize of $100,000 and the most enviable of all prizes; the title of “Ink Master.”
“Ink Master Rivals” sent Caroline Evans home last week, eliminating Julia Carlson’s rival, nonetheless, Julia will be competing against all the rest of the competitors, and nobody, especially bitchy Emily Elegado is about to let anyone slide.
As the episode begins, the artists are in the loft. Julia was asked if she was up to par, now that her rival was sent packing. She evaded the question, and Josh Hibbard asked again if she was up to par? She stated that she would be doing her best, but having been there before, Josh stated in no uncertain terms, that these artists have no idea what they got themselves into and will freak the f**k out!
The artists walked to the next venue, and there they met actor from True Blood, Joe Manganiello, who will be the guest judge and this week’s theme is Artistry. Dave announced that they will be given a Flash Challenge, and the winner will have an advantage in the Elimination Challenge.
As the canvases marched in, they were all women, with just their nipples and private parts covered; so they were naked, and most of the artists were men, who acted like boys. The Flash Challenge consisted of three hours, to give each randomly selected model, air-brushed clothes to match the theme of the article they were carrying. Their artistry or lack thereof, is what the judges will be looking for. When time was up, the paint sprayers were put down. Angel made a French maid costume on the girl with the duster and received kudos. Chris’ witch was semi-well received. Julia’s policewoman was nice and judged well. Robbie’s pirate was messy, but creative. Jayvo’s sailor had few clean lines, Ty’Esha’s nurse looked great from afar, but up close, it was a bit messy. LT’s football player lacked coordination, Ryan’s chef was very well done, Mark’s artist was cartoony, but nicely done. Cleen’s teacher was not appealing, Tim’s hula girl was not at all liked by the judges, Emily’s vintage bathing beauty was well done, and Aaron’s magician was too covered up. Erik’s barber was not too appealing. Don’s farmer’s daughter was so-so. Jason’s cutoff jeans on his topless cowgirl were so realistic, that he was given kudos by all the judges. Joshua’s firefighter was good, but the color choice of her jacket was not loved.
Dave then announced that the challenge was not over yet, and they were moving directly to the next Elimination Tattoo. Jason was upset because he believed he deserved the win, and now Dave stated that using the model they just did, they had to tattoo a pinup. Their job was to fix what needed to be fixed on their model, and create a pinup tattoo that will wow the judges; Chris Nunez, Oliver Peck, Joe Manganiello and America, who will be voting each week, America’s vote will be very important in the live finale, and the human canvas jury will also be voting.
Dave introduced the canvases, each had time to speak with them and see exactly what they wanted. Josh’s canvas wanted a ribcage tattoo, but he told him it would take at least eleven hours to do it, and with six hours, it could not be done; hence, he will do it on his calf. Josh comes from a line of used car salesmen, and had an easy time convincing him to move it. Angel said if he wanted ribcage, he should get ribcage, blah, blah, blah!
Tim Lee’s canvas wanted a better face than the one he drew, and told his canvas to trust him, but the face still looks like a man, and not a woman hula dancer. Chris noticed it immediately, and feels that Tim is dropping the ball. Tim did not like the canvas because he is a control freak, but he will be sporting this ugly tattoo, not Tim. Jason feels that he may have screwed himself on this tattoo, by making it too big. His problem now is, should he ink it up, or continue with the fine lines.
Time was called by Dave, and at the critique, Oliver stated that he hoped it was not everyone’s best work, he admitted that if they believed they did their best work today; get ready to go home. Robbie was first; he was told his looked like an alien with a big head and ugly arms. Jayvo was told the artistry was not there, because it was not symmetrical. Julia had one of the best ones due to the congruity of the anatomy. It was pleasing to the eye and Joe Manganiello said it was sexy. Ty’Esha had flaws in hers that were pointed out by Chris. When her tattoo was critiqued, Emily made a loud cheer. The judges questioned this, and Ty’Esha stated Emily was a bitch. LT’s girl had a big mouth and did not look sexy or pretty. LT said he went too small with the piece, but Oliver told him that other artists can do a small piece, and if he cannot stack up, this is not the place for him. Erik’s tattoo was well done and sexy. Don’s pinup’s hand was leaning in the grass in the photograph, but he messed it up on the tattoo. Mark’s girl had pretty eyes, nose and mouth and a nice looking tattoo. Ryan’s was terrible, it contained no artistry, and Ollie stated it was beat. Aaron’s was completely out of whack and Emily’s face was not to the judges liking, with a dented nose and crooked mouth, she was not happy with her critique. Jason’s girl was winking, and it distorted her face. Joshua’s firefighter was awesome and Dave told him he could be a runaway train. Chris said he ran out of steam when completing the arm on his tattoo, and the judges told him, if this is the case, not to be here. Angel’s tattoo made the French maid look like a gorilla, as he insisted on doing the rib tattoo, to show Josh that he should do what the customer wants. Don’t think the customer wanted this creepy tattoo. Cleen did a sexy teacher, but Tim’s hula girl was a mess, her face was distorted, but his technical ability was a bet better, because he did flowers around her ankles that were very well done, but no artistry was apparent. The artist who won the Elimination Challenge was Josh! Congrats!
When Ollie came to the loft, he wanted Tim, LT and Robbie and their rivals. LT was there because the Human Canvas Jury voted his as the worst tattoo of the day, unfortunately, the judges agreed with the Human Canvas Jury as Dave told LT, he did not have what it takes to be “Ink Master.”
