Thank you for this interview, Jonathan. Can you tell us a little about yourself and how long you’ve been writing?
Thank you for hosting me, Dorothy. I am a coach, author, speaker and teacher, and I help dreamers do and leaders excel. My background includes nearly 20 years’ experience as an educator, non-profit leader and higher education leader working in collaboration with a wide variety of sectors, and the common thread through the years has always been my desire to help others realize their full potential and advance themselves. Dream in Color, Think in Black & White is more than just the result of my own personal journey; it’s a natural progression in my efforts to help others fulfill their dreams.
I began writing Dream in Color, Think in Black & White in early 2013, shortly after I gave myself permission to dream!
Can you tell us briefly what your book is about?
Dream in Color, Think in Black & White is about taking hold of your dreams and turning them into reality. It’s about dreaming without limitations, and doing with intention and purpose. The book provides readers with a practical, step-by-step process for dreaming and doing that is both encouraging and doable.
What was your greatest challenge writing this book?
The greatest challenge in writing this book was stepping away from it and saying, “Done!” The editing process is extremely important, but eventually you have to step back and let your book stand on its own. Editing is like looking in the mirror; if you look too closely, you’ll always find another imperfection.
Are you published by a traditional house, small press or are you self-published?
I’m very happily self-published. After researching the various options and talking with a number of traditionally published authors about their experiences, I decided to self-publish through Amazon’s CreateSpace.
Was it the right choice for you?
Absolutely. I’m very pleased with CreateSpace, and I’ve found that the community of writers who use their forum are an invaluable resource for both new and experienced writers.
How are you promoting your book thus far?
I’m currently using a blend of social media, blogging, email marketing, online advertising, and now blog tours. As I move forward, I expect to continue using these channels and also expand to new ones.
How is that going for you?
I’m pleased with my promotional efforts so far, but I’m committed to continuing to expand the reach of Dream in Color, Think in Black & White to a wider audience.
Can you tell us one thing you have done that actually resulted in one or more sales?
Social media, especially Facebook, has been the most effective strategy so far, but I’m always searching for new ways to enable readers to experience the impact of my book.
Do you have another job besides writing?
Yes, in addition to being an author, I am the CEO of High Performance Impact, LLC, an executive coaching firm which helps proven and emerging leaders to identify and leverage their unique patterns of high performance.
What’s next for you?
In addition to expanding the reach of Dream in Color, Think in Black & White, I plan to continue building up my blogging platform and do more public speaking.
Can you tell us where we can find you on the web?
