ISIS bans math? In large areas of ISIS-controlled Syria, math, among other subjects, is now forbidden to be taught. Thousands of children living under the dreaded Sunni Jihadist group’s mantle of indoctrination and coercion can no longer pursue studies that do not confirm to new diktats as mandated by the unrecognized Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
ISIS has their fingers in all elements of life in the Islamic communities they have subjugated – retribution is brought against shop owners who display women’s clothing that does not conform to the ultra conservative dress code, curfews are enacted, access to water and electricity is restricted, cigarettes and alcohol are banned, public burnings are held for seized “contraband,” and citizens stare wide-eyed at the horrors of public executions and crucifixions.
Many of the nation’s schools and universities have been shut down; those administrators who stayed on were given a list of new “rules” they must adhere to – music, math, social studies and history have been cancelled. Pictures and phrases that do not fit Sharia law must be removed and all mention of the country of Syria must be replaced with the “Islamic State.”
History and government – especially egalitarian ties to elections and democracy – are strictly forbidden. In place of so called “western” subject matter, children are being taught the teachings of the radical Islamists; they must denounce “infidelity and infidels.”
In the group’s harsh interpretations of Islam, the teachings of evolution have been struck out, and laws of “nature,” such as those found in the study and physics and chemistry, are now “Allah’s Laws.”
Writes the Times of India:
The brutal advances of ISIS in Syria come as the country grapples with a three-year civil war with no clear victor in sight. The UN estimates more than 190,000 people have died in the violence between Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime and rebels seeking an end to four decades of al-Assad family rule. In recent weeks, the IS militants killed two American journalists and a British aid worker, prompting world leaders to form joint front to eliminate the newest threat.
Adds Headlines and Global News: “The terrorist organization has posted its new educational demands on billboards and street poles located in its Syrian-controlled territories. ‘This is an obligatory announcement, and all violators will be punished,’ the letter states.”
