The benefits of yoga are numerous. From boosting immunity, to easing migraines, yoga isn’t just for reducing stress anymore. My favorite style of yoga is Vinyasa, for the graceful flow and focus on core body strength and breathing.
Finding a mat that works effectively can be a daunting task. At various prices, made of different materials doing the research alone can be time consuming. If you’re like me, you’ll be looking for a mat that’s eco-friendly, with a good grip and heavy enough that it doesn’t slide around on the floor when practicing various yoga poses.
Jade was recommended to me by a friend of one of the best eco-friendly mats available, so I contacted them recently and received a sample mat to try. They also sent me a really nice, very soft towel to try too. They must know how much one sweats during Vinyasa yoga! My initial impression of the mat was that it had a very strong rubber odor. I hung it outside for a day, and by the end of the day it didn’t have much of a scent to it. A few days later I took it to yoga class for the first time. Wow, I was so impressed! The mat gripped perfectly to the floor. The sweatier I became, the more I stuck to it, perfect for holding those downward dog and lunge poses. It was plenty long enough for me to stretch out fully for the floor poses (I’m 5’2) and cushioned enough that I could comfortably make my way into seated poses with no feeling of the wood floor underneath. I liked the way it felt under my bare feet, too. Even the poses requiring the most balance felt more graceful, as I wasn’t sliding on the mat, nor was it sliding on the floor. The microfiber towel was soft and effective at removing the sweat from my face, and then I used it with a quick spritz of tea tree oil on my mat to clean it afterward and it didn’t shed or leave any fibers behind. I have used both my Jade mat and the towel from July 2014 until now, and they’re still as beautiful and perfect as they were when I received them.
