Jazal Goldmane is a powerful new white legendary creature card Wizards of the Coast’s upcoming multiplayer Magic: The Gathering product Commander (2014 Edition). Let’s take a look:
Jazal Goldmane – 2WW
Legendary Creature – Cat Warrior (Mythic Rare)
3WW: Attacking creatures you control get +X/+X until end of turn, where X is the number of attacking creatures.
“As my kha, he is the source of my inspiration. As my brother, he is the embodiment of my aspirations.”
The key to abusing Jazal Goldmane is to have a ton of creatures and attack with them. The problem is that in a multiplayer format like commander this leaves you very vulnerable to other players. Luckily, there’s a few workarounds to this.
Vigilance is your best bet. Flavorwise, it’s only fitting that Ajani Goldmane will give each of your creatures a +1/+1 counter and vigilance until end of turn. Angelic Skirmisher, Brave the Sands, and Akroma’s Memorial will also allow you to attack all out without fear of giving up your defenses. Of course let’s not leave out great creatures. Brimaz, King of Oreskos is an MVP in a Jazal Goldmane commander deck. Captain of the Watch is another excelent choice, and will boost your early soldiers like Elite Inquisitor. You could always rely upon a Hundred-Handed One to threats off your back. There’s always the classic and iconic Magic card Serra Angel too.
Because you’ll be pumping up your creatures having first strike is another way to ensure you always win in combat. White has access to a plethora of first strike creatures like Fiendslayer Paladin to take advantage of. What’s even better than first strike though? Double strike. Mirran Crusader, Fabled Hero, and Skyhunter Skirmisher are fantastic choices here and Silverblade Paladin also loves to be paired with Jazal Goldmane.
The last alternative is to make sure that creatures can’t attack you to begin with. Key white cards to include are Blazing Archon, Moat, Magus of the Moat, and Island Sanctuary. Glacial Chasm is a land that you can play post combat to prevent all damage that would be dealt to you . Other white effects that make it hard to attack you include you include Norn’s Annex, Ghostly Prison, and Windborn Muse.
One idea this Magic player can’t wait to abuse with Jazal Goldmane is attacking all opponents at the same time while controlling an Odric, Master Tactician. You’ll be able to decide how your rivals creatures block. The correct choice here is that they don’t.
