Jennifer Aniston is in incredible shape at 45, thanks to a low carb diet and yoga workouts with her longtime friend and yoga teacher Mandy Ingber.
Ingber, who has practiced yoga with Aniston for more than 20 years, said Jennifer stays fit year-round with a healthy low-carb diet and yoga workouts that incorporate cardio exercise and strength moves. Mandy said consistency is Aniston’s fitness secret.
“Jen’s a very consistent exerciser and eater,” Ingber told ABC News. “But when she has something she needs to focus a little more on, she just tightens it up a little bit. She won’t have the extra chips.”
Ingber revealed in an exclusive interview that she and Aniston do yoga together three days a week. “We meet up about three times a week, and our sessions are 60 to 90 minutes,” Mandy told me. “We incorporate cardio and toners into the yoga sessions, much like I do in my Yogalosophy DVD.”
Aniston: Yoga Is Excellent Stress Relief
While Jennifer works out to look good, she said exercise, especially yoga, is critical for emotional and mental health. “My ultimate stress reliever is exercise!” said Aniston. “If yoga didn’t exist, I’d invent it.”
When Aniston wants to slim down, Ingber said they focus on increasing the cardio portion of their workouts. “We up the cardio a little bit, if she’s looking to sort of trim down,” said Mandy. The 5-foot-5 Aniston previously revealed that her ideal weight is 110 to 113 pounds.
Like other fitness experts, Ingber said diet is more important than exercise when it comes to weight loss and body composition. “That really is 80 percent of it,” she said. “It’s not a big deal if you have a bite of this or that if you are mostly eating well.”
Ingber said Jen’s go-to diet is a Zone-type of diet, which is 40 percent of calories from carbs, 30 percent from fat, and 30 percent from protein. “Jen’s very into keeping filled with protein, and you can see the result of that,” Ingber told the Stir. “You can see the lean muscles. That’s also due to exercise and yoga, but it’s also about what you put into your body.”
Ingber said Aniston focuses on butt exercises to keep her glutes firm and toned, saying squats work wonders for the backside. Mandy said the secret to Aniston’s toned arms are vinyasa yoga moves.
“If you do vinyasa flows, it’s actually one of the best things you can do for your arms because you are doing multiple push-ups,” said Mandy. “That’s the reason Jennifer has tone.”
Ingber said Jennifer’s anti-aging beauty secrets include having a positive attitude and drinking lots of water to keep skin looking smooth and supple. “Jen is definitely somebody that has encouraged me to hydrate,” said Ingber. “When you stay hydrated, you’re not as hungry. Sometimes when you think you’re hungry, you’re actually thirsty.”
Aniston, who’s engaged to actor Justin Theroux, said she refuses to cave in to the Hollywood pressure to get loads of plastic surgery in a bid to look young forever. Jennifer said Theroux is vehemently opposed to her getting plastic surgery, and she’s happy to oblige.
Aniston, who has been open about the nose job she got during her twenties, said Hollywood stars who go overboard with plastic surgery and Botox injections look desperate. Jennifer said her role models are natural beauties such as Gloria Steinem, Diane Keaton, Charlotte Rampling and Annette Bening, who are aging gracefully and still look amazing.
