Jessica Arrendale, a 33-year-old murdered mother of two, hides her baby girl in the one place she thought safe… inside of a toilet bowl. Arrendale hid her infant baby at her townhouse home located in the Smyrna Vinings area of Cobb County, Georgia. Jessica, shot dead by her boyfriend and the father of her 6-month-old infant, is being credited with saving her daughter’s life by hiding her inside the toilet.
Writes People.com: “Dying from a bullet to the head, Jessica Arrendale found the strength to save the life of her 6-month-old daughter. Arrendale, 33, had come home from a night out with her daughter Cobie’s father, Antoine Davis, 30, on Sept. 13 when Davis became violent, according to police. With her baby in her arms, Arrendale tried to defend herself with a baseball bat but she was overpowered by Davis, who struck her several times with the bat.”
Last Saturday night, Arrendale, Davis and their daughter returned home from an evening out. Davis, a former Marine who has served multiple tours in Iraq, was drunk. Family members say Davis would often become physically abusive with the mother of his child.
Jessica’s mother, Teresa Inniello, said that Davis “chased Arrendale up the stairs” shortly after midnight in their three-story townhouse. It appears that Arrendale was holding Cobie when Davis assaulted her with the bat; the six-month-old infant sustained a “traumatic head injury,” investigators say.
Arrendale took refuge inside of a locked bathroom, but Davis, armed with an assault rife, busted open the door and shot Arrendale in the head. Little Cobie, meanwhile, had been hidden in the toilet. Some reports indicate that Arrendale hid Cobie in the toilet bowl after she was shot; others are suggesting she placed Cobie inside, with the lid down, before Davis burst in.
Either way, after killing the mother of his child and evidently unable to see Cobie, Davis walked to the bedroom, sat down on the bed, and turned the gun on himself.
“She had pure will,” Ionniello said. “She wanted that baby to live. She was the hero, because her last breath was saving the child.”
Not knowing that the residents were already dead, the shooting touched off a 13-hour standoff from Smyrna police, who repeatedly attempted to contact either Davis or Arrendale from outside of the home. After a failed attempt by a robot to enter the home, SWAT teams converged and discovered the bodies of Cobie’s parents, and the young girl inside of the toilet.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help care for Arrendale’s infant girl and teen daughter. The site reads:
An amazing mother, daughter, sister and friend were taken way too soon. Jessica was one of the most beautiful people I have ever met. This fund has been set-up for the two children that she has left behind. Jessica was the sole provider for her household. As a friend, I feel obligated to do all things possible to make sure the children’s lives remain in the state it was prior to the events that occurred. There was no doubt of Jessica’s beauty, but when you truly knew her is when you saw the real beauty.
As of the writing of this article, over $18K had been raised. Cobie is still being treated at Children’s Health Care of Atlanta at the Scottish Rite Hospital. Ionniello said she will raise Cobie; she already is caring for Arrendale’s 15-year-old daughter.
