When Ed Hubbard’s sons graduated from college and needed help finding a job, he couldn’t find the right person to assist them in this mission.
Recognizing this need in the Houston community, Hubbard founded Job Search 101 to help job seekers know the ins and outs of finding a job.
“I just wanted them to get a job,” said Hubbard, when talking about his sons who were looking for employment after college. “I looked for an organization or someone to help when my sons were looking for a job. I would have been happy to pay someone to help them.”
Job Search 101 is a non-profit organization in Houston designed to provide free career coaching services and improve the job search process for those in need – the unemployed who need assistance, direction, and professional guidance in their search for employment. As a subsidized initiative, there are no charges or fees to the recipients for the training provided.
Facilitators with the program are typically professional career counselors, career coaches and trainers who have helped many workers in career transitions. Most Job Search 101 job search trainers have decades of experience in the field and have worked extensively with the unemployed.
The company is now in their second year and going strong and offer training in resume writing, interviewing and networking.
In addition to classes on LinkedIn, job seekers can learn new skills at Star of Hope, Dressed for Success, the YMCA and numerous churches in the Houston area. Their central location for instruction is the Leisure Learning building located at 2990 Richmond Avenue.
All classes and instruction are free to the job searcher. Hubbard pays for everything including coaches, trainers and networking events. Dates for classes are available at http://marioninteractive.com/js101/js101-calendar.php.
