The Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series get back on track this weekend at Michigan International Speedway, home of the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet 250 on Saturday, June 14th and the Quicken Loans 400 on Sunday, June 15th. Joe Gibbs Racing is bringing five drivers and six teams to the 2-mile oval in the Irish Hills of Brooklyn, Michigan, including two of the most recent winners in the Nationwide Series.
Denny Hamlin heads to Michigan in the No. 11 FedEx Express Toyota Camry with two wins under his belt at the track. He won two straight June races in 2010 and 2011, and has seven top 10 finishes in 16 starts.
Kyle Busch starts Sunday’s race in the No. 18 Pretzel M&Ms Toyota, having won at MIS in August 2011. Busch has six top 10 finishes in 18 starts, including a fourth-place finish last June. On Saturday, he’ll be in the familiar No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota Camry in the Nationwide Series race, with one win (August 2004) and five top 10 finishes in six starts; last year, he finished fourth in the June race. Busch won his most recent start at Dover; he has three wins and 10 top 10 finishes in 10 starts this season.
Matt Kenseth is in the No. 20 Dollar General Toyota in this weekend’s Cup race, heading to a track where he won in June 2002 and August 2006 with Roush Fenway Racing. Kenseth has 18 top 10 finishes in 29 starts at MIS.
Elliott Sadler starts Saturday’s Nationwide Series race in the No. 11 OneMain Financial Toyota. Sadler has five top 10 finishes in nine starts at Michigan, with a best finish of seventh in August 2010. Currently second in points, Sadler picked up the win at Talladega Superspeedway in May, and has nine top 10 finishes in 12 starts this season.
Sam Hornish Jr. will represent JGR’s newest sponsor, SunEnergy1, in the No. 20 Toyota on Saturday. At Michigan, Hornish Jr. has four previous starts in the Nationwide Series, with a best finish of sixth in June 2012 with Team Penske. Hornish Jr. has made two starts this season in the Nationwide Series for JGR, coming home with a fifth at Talladega and a win at Iowa just a few weeks ago.
Qualifying for Saturday’s Nationwide Series Oillie’s Bargain Outlet 250 takes place Saturday at 10:35 a.m. ET, followed by the green flag at 2 p.m. ET. Sprint Cup Series qualifying for the Quicken Loans 400 is Friday at 3:35 p.m. ET, while the race goes green Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Keep up with the action at joegibbsracing.com.
