Kate Hudson is in the best shape of her life at 35, thanks to a low-carb diet and Pilates, yoga, and dance workouts.
Hudson has been doing Pilates since age 19, and credits it for her 70-pound weight loss after each of her two pregnancies (in 2011 and 2004). Judging by her slim physique, it’s hard to believe the 5-foot-6 Kate once weighed 184 pounds.
Hudson admits losing the baby weight was hard, and that she exercised up to six hours a day to work off the excess pounds.
While Kate no longer works out for hours every day, Hudson maintains an active lifestyle because exercise makes her feel good. “When we start moving our body, it brings more dopamine and serotonin to our brains,” Hudson told InStyle.
“Exercise awakens your system, so I try to stay motivated to be active. I like Pilates because it strengthens you from the inside out. It really centers on your core.”
Hudson also does yoga, runs and jumps rope. Kate has always loved working out, saying she doesn’t feel good when she’s inactive. Kate also said she’d rather exercise than starve herself, which is why workouts are an important part of her daily routine.
She dislikes restrictive diets and typically follows a low-carb, high-protein eating plan like the Paleo diet, which was shown to be twice as effective for weight loss and reducing belly fat as a low-fat diet.
Research shows the Paleo diet works especially well for women because it reduces the blood sugar spikes and hormone surges that fuel overeating and mood swings, said Nell Stephenson, author of Paleoista: Gain Energy, Get Lean.
Hudson now maintains her stunning bikini body by eating 1,800 calories a day (1,500 when she’s trying to drop a few pounds). Kate also does a belly fat-busting juice cleanse twice a year to detoxify her body and give her digestive system a break.

Kate has been in the public eye all her life, growing up as the daughter of actress Goldie Hawn. Over the years, she has become increasingly disgusted with the invasion of privacy by paparazzi and the snarkiness in the media and blogosphere.
Hudson said she doesn’t see anything wrong with getting plastic surgery, and doesn’t understand why people are so judgmental about it.
“The negativity is just so vast,” said Kate. “Will everybody stop being so damned judgmental? If someone wants to go get butt implants, then sure, go get butt implants. The real question is, ‘How do they treat the person next to them? Are they *ssh*les or are they awesome?’ ”
