Kevin Sweat proved without a shadow of a doubt that he poses a harm to the public as he got up in court and took a swipe at his lawyer’s throat with a razor blade, cutting him. He drew blood, but thankfully the lawyer suffered only a minor injury. Sweat committed his last act of violence against another human being right there in court as his three life sentences were passed down, according to MSN on Oct. 26.
His three life sentences are without parole and that was a good decision as he made it very well known with his actions Friday that he’s not one to hesitate when the opportunity to slice someone’s throat presents itself, as it apparently did Friday. Sweat was sentenced to the three life sentences for killing two young girls and his fiancee, but his sentencing was delayed about an hour because he cut the lawyer’s neck, while going for his throat.
Sweat suffered an injury to his nose, but was brought back into the Oklahoma courtroom where the murder victims’ family members and friends packed the court to witness the sentencing. Sweat was donned in a bullet-proof vest that was visible over his jumpsuit when the judge turned to him and said “Today is judgment day.”
It is a mystery as to how the convicted killer smuggled a razor blade into court from the prison, but somehow he did. He cut Attorney Peter Astor’s neck and thankfully it was a minor wound, according to NewsOK today. There was some blood from the cut and it might have looked worse than it actually was, but the lawyer is fine.
Back on July 31, Sweat unexpectedly agreed to plead guilty to all three killings under the condition that he gets to talk to the FBI. Friday he told the judge that he now wants to withdraw those guilty pleas, but the judge refused the request at this courtroom appearance, but he did schedule another hearing to consider the request on Nov. 7.
Each time the judge ordered Sweat to serve a life sentence without parole for the individual murders, the courtroom broke into a round of applause. This was a very sad event, Sweat had taken the life of two very young girls and his young fiancee.
Sweat shot and killed two young friends, who were only 11 and 12. Their deaths remained a mystery until he was questioned about the death of his fiancee and he gave up the information about all three murders. He shot 11-year-old Skyla Whitaker and 13-year-old Taylor Paschal-Placker in 2008 as the girls walked down a road near Weleetka in eastern Oklahoma. He also admitted to killing his fiancee, 23-year-old Ashley Taylor, in 2011.
