The Los Angeles Galaxy (8-4-6 30pts) scored three first half goals on their way to a convincing 3nil win over Seattle Sounders FC (12-5-4 38pts) at Century Link Field. What was supposed to be a epic battle between two teams battling for MLS Western Conference supremacy turned out to be a one sided beat down. LA arrived sharp, focused and ready to rumble.
Unfortunately for the 39,304 fans in attendance, only one team came ready to play or fight for that matter. The Galaxy took a 1 nil lead in the 7th minute on a left footed shot by Gyasi Zardas after a sublime back pass from Landon Donovan. In simple terms, LA punched the Sounders in the mouth and there was no retaliation to speak off from the home side.
With no fight back from Sounders FC, LA continued it’s bullying of Seattle with another goal just ten minutes later to make it 2-0. Landon Donovan played goal scorer by rifling up a loose ball found in the Sounders FC penalty box.
“ The last month has been difficult for me for various reasons and I felt I needed to step up my game and be a leader on this team, “ Donovan said after the game.
Stefan Ishizaki’s left footed blast in the 36th minute made it 3 nil LA and Seattle looked bruised and battered, and never recovered physically or mentally. LA ‘s dominance of Seattle was so complete that Sounders FC finished the first half without a shot on goal. Seattle did manage 4 shots in the second half “ That first half was probably our best half of the season and the second half we played a tactfully smart game that earned us a much needed win,” Galaxy forward Robbie Keane said after the game.
LA’s strategy against Sounders FC was surgically executed. Wide outs Marcelo Sarvas and Landon Donovan played next to the touchline, stretching the Seattle defense and creating pockets for Stefan, Ishizaki, Juninho, Robbie Keane and Gyasi Zardes to have their way in the middle of the field and beyond. “ With our midfield controlling the ball we had time to run into space and they found us time and time again,“ Zardes said of LA dominance in shots and ball possession.
The win by LA snaps Sounders FC six game home win streaks.
