More and more people are following the Tiny House Listings website and emails with dreams of downsizing or getting a mortgage free home. Country Living Magazine has collected 12 of the Most Impressive Tiny Houses You’ve Ever Seen with a diverse sampling for more ideas for very small homes.
These are all existing homes built in specific states, but many were built by people offering the plans for sale. For those who do not have time to page through the slide show on the Country Living site, here are some brief sample descriptions with links to pictures and more information:
Refined Woodland Cabin, as shown in the picture, is an especially nice 400-square-foot cross-shaped floorplan creating kitchen, dining room and bathroom alcoves. French doors lead outside from the central living room, above which is a bedroom loft. Designer David Vandervort offers the building plans.
Minimalist Living is 196-square-feet built on a 24-foot flatbed, sided with recycled pallet wood, feels light and spacious for its size, and cost about $11,000 to build.
Rural Retreat was built on an 8- by 20-foot trailer with an additional three feet for a back porch, has 10 windows and an all-glass door which incorporate indoors and out for a larger space feeling and a connection to nature, was designed and built by the owner for about $30,000, and the plans are available.
Modern Corn Crib, although designed on a traditional corn crib form by Broadhurst Architects, is made of sustainable and recyclable materials in a modern 250-square-foot interior, contains a loft, expandable kitchen wall, and insulated glass garage door to a deck, also connecting home interior and surroundings.
Cheery Beach Cottage has a “coastal-cracker exterior” made of a Structured Insulated Paneling System (SIPS) that can handle hurricane winds, has beadboard walls and ceilings and bamboo floors, contains 325-square-feet with a loft and large deck.
Victorian Farmhouse, a mini Victorian “Painted Lady” measuring 12- by 26-feet, features a built-in sofa that can be another bed, a Murphy bed, sleeping loft, and glassed-in shower with river rock floor. Tiny Texas Houses salvaged all of the materials except for about one percent including all framing, windows and doors and interior and exterior skins.
Dream Bungalow was built with rain-screen cedar and hardy siding with a pine and cedar interior, has polymer concrete counters and a shelving system which incorporates the ladder to reach the loft. Wind River Custom Homes constructed this 204-square-foot home.
