Cali has been through a lot so far in life and has been bounced around a bit. But she has a wonderful advocate in her corner who is trying to make sure that Cali gets another chance at a happy ending.
In April 2012, Rachel began volunteering at Animal Care and Control (ACCT) in Philly. Cali was the first dog she had the pleasure of spending time with and the connection was immediate. While Cali would be missed, Rachel was thrilled when a few months later her favorite girl was adopted.
Sadly, it didn’t turn out to be Cali’s happily-ever-after. Rachel was horrified to learn that in the fall of the same year, Cali was found as a stray in Florida, emaciated and covered in fleas. Rachel personally paid for her transport back to Philly where she was then nursed back to health, and spent the next four months in foster care with Rachel.
When a great family came forward to adopt her, it was difficult for Rachel to let her go, but she understands the importance and need for fostering. You take them in, love them, and prepare them for a future with another family; then the cycle begins again, saving another animal from euthanasia and giving it a chance at a great life. She described it best in her own words:
“You teach them how to love, then leave them to share their newfound love with a family.”
But sadly, after a year, Cali’s family was evicted and she is now, through no fault of her own, on a five-day courtesy eviction hold at the overcrowded shelter. Unfortunately, this time Rachel is not in a position to foster her, but that’s not stopping her from doing all she can to once again change the direction of Cali’s life.
She’s asking for help in finding the perfect home for Cali, because although she has hit some rough patches, her forever family and home are out there. She deserves to be safe, cared for, and happy for the rest of her days. Check out her Craigslist ad here. After reading Rachel’s description, other than needing to be an only dog – she has lived comfortably with a cat, we agree Cali does sound pretty perfect.
If you think you can help Cali, or need further information, please respond to her ad. Otherwise please share for her because your share may be the one to reach the perfect person who will open their heart and home to her.
