Congratulations to Orlando ballroom professional Mandy Ball, who has passed several high-level dance examinations over the past few years. The Orlando ballroom dance scene is lucky to have someone like Mandy living in the Central Florida area, to provide the area’s independent professionals with on-going training without having to be associated with a franchised dance studio. Mandy receives her dance diplomas from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), one of the world’s most respected dance organizations for dance certifications. The certification levels the ISTD uses are:
Student teacher: Intermediate Bronze level
Associate: Full Bronze
Each level includes the level(s) below and includes teaching questions, comparisons, general theory of dancing, etc. They expect more general knowledge at each level. In each level, there are also the following category break-downs:
America Smooth – Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese Waltz
American Rhythm – Cha-Cha-Cha, Rhumba, Bolero, East Coast Swing, Mambo
International Standard – Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep
International Latin – Cha-Cha-Cha, Rhumba, Jive, Paso Doble and Samba
As of today, Mandy has passed her tests all the way through her Licentiate Smooth (pre-2008) and Licentiate Latin (2011), her Fellow Standard (2009), her Fellow Rhythm (2012) and she hopes to take her Fellow tests in both Smooth and Latin in 2015, or at least one of them…making her one of the most “decorated” dance scholars in the Orlando area.
Mandy is also the current Examinations Director for the ISTD (she helps organize examination sessions around the country) and currently ranks as the #2 trainer in the country of candidates for these exams. She travels to many states to coach candidates, getting them ready for their examinations. Mandy really enjoys dance theory, and she likes to know how and why things work.
Mandy teaches ballroom dance classes in the Orlando area, and her student often become certified dance instructors and enjoy her unique style of teaching dance. Many of her female dancers can lead, and the classes often put together formation teams, using the material they learn for their examinations as the bulk of the choreography. She can be reached by phone at 407-902-9995 or by email at email@example.com. Her website is www.mandyballroomdance.com, and contains more information about her group classes and private instruction.
