Space travel to Mars has received serious national attention in recent years, but a gradual fall in solar winds may unfortunately end up delaying the stellar trip. Scientists are saying that the sun’s behavior has shifted to a state not seen for 100 years, and higher levels of radiation may result. Yet fans of the cosmos are also abuzz this week with new footage of a possible UFO being captured in NASA video, as the Daily Mail reports this October 22, 2014, that a mysterious flying object was spotted in a photo not far from the International Space Station (ISS) this month.
Before delving into the exciting news surrounding the latest UFO sighting, there’s some bad news in store for the world’s favorite space explorers venturing to Mars. According to a new press release, the sun is changing. A plummeting drop in overall solar wind levels have ultimately made a trip out into deep space, including one to the Red Planet, highly dangerous. Consequently, says one professor, long-distance travel to the cosmic tundra may be delayed for years — or even decades.
“[Our research has found that] the behavior of the sun has recently changed and is now in a state not observed for almost 100 years,” shares professor Nathan Schwadron in a statement. “Starting in about 2006, we observed the longest solar minimum and weakest solar activity observed in the space age.”
Therefore, The Register posits this afternoon, why are these weak amounts of sun activity and a fall in solar “winds” detrimental to more Mars exploration and eventual astronaut travel? Solar wind ordinarily has the unique ability to limit the levels of cosmic radiation that are able to infiltrate areas of the solar system closest to Earth. These cosmic rays are deadly to astronauts if exposed, and the sun’s recent calm is making outer space even more of a cold, forbidding place than ever.
Preliminary research is suggesting that with the sun’s current lull in mind, astronauts should not be traveling to Mars or simply spend time out in the cosmic atmosphere any longer than several months. Yet with a trip to the Red Planet requiring a travel time of roughly half a year via spacecraft, a lengthy delay is likely inevitable. The same rules would apply to eager applicants interested in possibly being part of a rumored first space expedition to “live” on Mars.
“While these conditions are not necessarily a showstopper for long-duration missions to the moon, an asteroid, or even Mars, galactic cosmic ray radiation in particular remains a significant and worsening factor that limits mission durations,” concludes Schwadron, gloomily.
In more positive — or at least hopeful — cosmic headline from Mercury News, however, a new NASA space video is being said by some viewers to have captured a glimpse of a passing UFO. The eye-catching video was uploaded to YouTube in early October, and keen observers can clearly witness a sighting of what appears to be an unidentified flying object passing near the International Space Station (ISS).
One commenter from the UFOs Blogger says that an unknown craft can be seen flying near the astronauts for several seconds. The video itself showcases the mysterious aircraft at approximately the 1 minute, 50 second mark, and the distinct object can be seen floating not far from ISS. The blogger does note that the visual telecast was rather grainy, however.
“The video showed astronauts spacewalking as they were working on a mission. Suddenly almost after 1:50 minutes, a mysterious craft appeared flying near the astronauts for a few seconds. The shape and size of the UFO could not be defined clearly as the telecast was not much clear.”
Is this latest breakthrough in spotting UFOs further evidence to suggest life exists and is traveling in outer space? Possibly. A more realistic explanation could be that the apparent object is just a trick of the light and lens flare, with light shifting from the ISS and refracting onto the NASA video recorder’s lens. Yet some intelligent space watchers have said that there is not a great enough light source nearby to cast such a “flare,” which may suggest that the seeming otherworldly craft could indeed be a real UFO. A trio of mysterious objects were also seen earlier this week, each as large as football fields, flying over West Virginia. What do you make of it?
