Her first sale was $42,000, but now Coldwell Banker’s Jade Mills sells homes worth 1,000 times more than that. Her clientele includes big names as Jennifer Aniston and Gwen Stephani. Mills confidently states, “If you go on Google, I don’t have to tell you.”
Mills’ big-name career sprouted in the ‘90s at a charity event. While she was waiting for her car to pull up to valet, she star-spotted Lionel Richie (one of the only people that have ever left her star struck). “I walked up to him and said, ‘I’ve loved you all of my life.’ And then his wife said, ‘So have I,’” Mills reflected to the Hollywood Reporter laughing. Not too long after, Mills found herself listing the Richies’ home and helping them purchase another. Wow, first celebrity listing and she landed the seller and buyer transaction!
Today, Mills’ clientele list consists of Britney Spears, Charlie Sheen, and Jennifer Aniston. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Aniston’s freshly renovated home in Beverly Hills’ Trousdale Estates sold in 2011 for $40 million, despite doubts the home could even land such a high figure.
Throughout the stretch of her more than three-decade career, Mills has cashed in more than $3 billion in sales and consistently ranks as one of the top producers in the country. She’s holding Connie Stevens’ $18.5 million listing in Holmby Hills, as well as co-listing Bob Hope’s $21.8 million estate in Toluca Lake with Hilton & Hyland’s Drew Fenton.
Even her biggest competitors can do nothing but rave about her real estate performance. Branden Williams of Hilton & Hyland, a competitor in the market and close friend, reveals, “She’s hard-core. She can get people to trust her and she assures them that she can close this deal.” Williams reflected to the Hollywood Reporter of a time when “Mills convinced a buyer who wanted to add an additional 90 days to escrow – a request that would kill many deals – to wire the seller an advance of $750,000 as a gesture of good faith.” Of course, Mills closed the deal.
Her first sale was a home in Van Nuys for $42,000. Today she resides in a vastly sweeping hillside home in Trousdale Estates. To put this in perspective, it was in this same neighborhood where Mills sold a previous residence of hers to Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi for $8.5 million in 2008. Her current third husband, Adam Mills, does all her advertising and marketing. Can I call him?
Ultimately, the takeaway, or shall I say the lesson or advice from Mills’ success, was stated very elegantly by Rayni Romito Williams of Hilton & Hyland. “She always has a smile. You don’t get to where she is by not being tough, but she’s sweet at the same time. That’s what I’ve learned as a woman who’s modeled my business after her: to maintain a soft side in a hard, male business.”
