On the evening of Friday, June 27, 2014, actor Meshach Taylor was said to have taken a turn for the worse in his health. The next day, conflicting reports started going around that he had passed away. While he had not died, Taylor was listed as terminally ill, and his family was at his bedside. Sadly, his status did not improve as USA Today reported on June 29, 2014, that Meshach Taylor has died.
Meshach Taylor was just 67-years-old.
Throughout his final hours, Taylor was surrounded by his family, and that included his 100-year-old mother. He leaves behind four children and four grandchildren.
The star of the hit TV series “Designing Women” has been battling cancer for over the past year, and he was in hospice care at his Altadena home. Meshach Taylor officially died at 10:47 p.m. on the evening of Saturday, June 28, 2014, according to his son Tariq Taylor.
Even though he’s fought the cancer for the past year, his condition faded incredibly over the past week alone.
Back in mid-April, he was well enough to celebrate his 67th birthday with family and friends from some of his past shows and movies. A number of guests at his party included stars from “Criminal Minds” and “Designing Women” including Delta Burke, Joe Mantegna, and Jean Smart.
Meshach Taylor’s first appearance came in the 1978 movie “Damien: Omen II,” and it’s been going strong ever since.
Obviously, “Designing Women” was his most famous role, but everyone remembers him for something different. So many will truly miss the man who played the flamboyant Hollywood Montrose in the ’80s movie “Mannequin.”
Thoughts, prayers and condolences to the Taylor family and those that were lucky enough to call him a friend. Rest in peace, Meshach Taylor.
