The root cause of those false beliefs held by the vast majority of the US population is the incredibly enormous and expensive spin machine the one-percent owns and uses to an alarming degree to control, manipulate and ultimately defeat us. To quote Pogo, “We’ve met the enemy… and he is us!”
My tagline gets to some, but not all, of the root causes of things as they are in the US and likely the world. Oppression, slavery, ignorance and domination by brutal one-percenters in other places in the world are outside of my control. I understand that. Notwithstanding, I will continue to make the effort to change even those conditions. However, the fact that there is oppression, slavery, ignorance and domination within the nation in which I live and that I served for three decades rankles me.
It rankles me even more that many of my fellow-citizens seem oblivious while others opportunistically capitalize on it even as they are doing jack to stop it or at least change it.
The mid-term elections are just days away. Sadly, most citizens of this once great and powerful empire will go to the polls on Election Day armed with and informed by the invective and diatribe spewed by the expensive, misleading lies they hear in political infomercials that feed their respective fears, biases, prejudices and complete lack of tolerance—and the well-being of this nation and citizens be damned. All that matters to the voting majority is that their petty fears, biases, prejudices and intolerance are well nourished even if they are not.
One-percenters have no allegiance to this nation or any one nation for that matter. They never have, they never will. Think of it in this way, the one-percent have many homes. If one burns to the ground or is demolished by a tornado, the one-percent just move to another home. What we the people do in such a case, the one-percent believe, is our problem.
Evidence of what you are reading is all around you if you care enough to notice.
There’s lots of poverty to go around in Texas red but all you hear about and see is all about the jobs and the prosperity there is in Texas red. Where among rich, White males? That is the way things started here. Seems little has changed.
Don’t forget the one-percent own just about all media. When you control the media, guess what? You control the message. The real story seldom gets out.
But even if it did, for most people reality is just too painful, difficult and abstract a concept to grasp or cope with. For them denial and ignorance are just better options. Among the “lots that’s scary” about that is the fact that many of them vote.
When the majority population of Texas red vote they vote, tribal; white, male, racist, bigoted, misogynist, homophobic and for the darlings of the one-percent. Ignorance is an ugly thing.
Ignorance powered by the reptilian brain? That’s what the non-reptilian brained deal with.
“There’s no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.
The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice..”
That once in a great, great while an FDR comes along is probably the most we can hope. Not this election cycle but sometime, maybe….
From Texas Red: a cratered landscape of for profit prisons, a deplorable apartheid public education system, lack of healthcare and politicians and majority voting population intent on keeping it that way…
