Missing UVA student Hannah Graham was last seen on various security cameras walking alone after leaving an off-campus party early Saturday morning. Security footage picked up a man, who seemed to be trailing Hannah and who contacted police to say that he was following her because he was concerned for her safety, according to the New York Daily News on Sept. 19.
New surveillance video shows Hannah always alone walking, but at one point she started running. It is not known what caused the 18-year-old college sophomore to pick up speed like that, according to Fox News. Hannah was walking in the area of the mall in the downtown area of Charlottesville, Virginia.
The man seen following Hannah contacted police and gave them information on a man that Hannah seemingly knew and met up with shortly after she was out of the range of the surveillance cameras. This man she reportedly met up with is not seen on any of the video footage.
The man who is the witness and who was seen on the video gave the description of the other man that he said Hannah met up with. He is described as a “heavyset black man.” He gave a detailed description of this man and this is who police consider “a person of interest” today. The witness said the man seemingly knew Hannah, as he put his arm around her and the two were talking as if they were acquainted.
This is when the man seen trailing Hannah on the video stopped following her, feeling that she was safe with his acquaintance of hers, according to “Fox and Friends” live on Friday morning Sept. 19. People are asking what about this witness? Who is he and is he a person of interest? This is a question that Fox brought up on Friday morning. Police are trying to substantiate the statement of the man who was trailing Hannah on the video by finding this other unseen black male who Hannah supposedly met up with.
The witness also remains someone on the police scope because he was the last one seen on the same videos with Hannah and admits to following her. “Fox and Friends” reports that the area that Hannah was seen in on tape is a fairly busy area even in the early hours of the morning, but one block either way is not. She could have turned and walked into the dimly lit and somewhat desolate area.
Police saw the man on the video who looked to be trailing Hannah and they were surprised on Thursday when that man contacted police to say, “yes, I was trailing her,” but only because he feared for her safety. He saw her walking alone and she appeared drunk, but once she met up with the man, who is now the “person of interest” she seemed to know him and the man stopped following her.
The man that met up with Hannah is described as a “heavyset black male with a beer belly” in his late 20s or early 30s. She seemed to know him as they started to talk and he put his arm around Hannah. That man is the last know person to be seen with the University of Virginia sophomore, according to the witness. The person of interest didn’t show up in any of the surveillance video clips the police have watched.
The man who police call the “person of interest” is about 5-foot-10 or 5-foot-11, 250-285 pounds with a close-shaved head and goatee, said the witness who was trailing Hannah. Police say the man trailing her on the video contacted police on Thursday and he appeared genuinely concerned for Hannah’s safety. She was an unknown teen to him, but he could see that she was drunk and distressed and walking alone. He still remains someone police will investigate.
It was the early hours of Sept. 13 when that last glimpse of Hannah was seen on that surveillance video. The different clips showing Hannah’s journey came from the area business security camera footage. They were pieced together to show a portion of her journey after leaving the party. The last glimpse of Hannah showed her walk by a downtown pizza place and that was at 1 a.m. say police.
Graham’s friends first reported her missing on Sunday after realizing that the last time anyone heard from her was a text message that she had sent on at 1:20 a.m. on Saturday. Police said that they can see from the video clips that at about 12:45 a.m. on Saturday she got lost. Videos retrieved from a gas station and an Irish Pub shows that Hannah was circling the area between 12:45 a.m. and 12: 55 a.m., which was just minutes before the 1:06 a.m. image of Hannah captured from the pizza place video, the last known clip of Hannah.
Police say that the sophomore’s last text message did not indicate that she was in any danger, reports Charlottesville Police Capt. Gary Pleasants. He also said that they fear foul play as disappearing and not contacting anyone would be totally out of character for Hannah.
The 5-foot-11 teen is originally from England and she was last seen wearing black pants and a gold crop top, as seen from surveillance video released from her dorm building before she left for her night of partying.
This second man described by the man who was following Hannah is not seen in any of the video footage and police are asking anyone with any information to please contact them at (434) 295-3851.
A $50,000 reward for any information leading to the whereabouts of Hannah is now being offered in the case. The community around the college got together on campus and held a vigil for Hannah last night. “You make things good, Hannah Graham. Where are you? Was the theme of the vigil that was seen on signs.
Friends wrote a heartfelt letter and read it to the crowd of about 2,000. Her favorite snack candy “Starburst” was passed out to the crowd, according to NBC News today.
