Just one month away from Moonalice’s appearance at the Alhambra Theater in Portland, Oregon on October 23. Moonalice is a psychedelic, roots-rock band of seasoned musicians. The band mixes a variety of genres, and its shows feature extended musical improvisations that evoke a sense of adventure and exploration. Moonalice makes the audience part of the experience and the music inspires dance as well as other forms of self expression. Every show features an original art poster, created by a well-known artist, and with its own unique Moonalice “legend”. A copy of the poster will be given free to all attendees. All Moonalice concerts are broadcast live in HD and available in an online archive shortly after their set.
Moonalice is composed of previous members of the Flying Other Brothers including current members, FOB’s founder, Roger McNamee aka “Chubby Wombat Moonalice” on bass, guitar, vocals McNamee has been with Moonalice since 2007. Pete Sears, on bass, keyboards, accordion, vocals, has also been with the group since its inception in 2007. Sears is the former pianist of the Jefferson Starship.
Barry Sless plays bass, guitar, pedal steel guitar, and performs vocals. Sless has been associated with a number of bands including: Phil Lesh and Friends, Moonalice, David Nelson Band, Rattlebox, Flying Other Brothers, Kingfish, Great American Taxi, and Barry and the Grissettes.
On percussion for Moonalice is John Molo who joined the group in 2009. Molo, a rock and jazz percussionist, has played with a number of groups including: Bruce Hornsby and the Range, The Other Ones, Phil Lesh and Friends. He has also played with a number of soloists and combos, including: John Fogerty, Mike Watt, David Nelson, Paul Kelly, and Keller Williams. While with Bruce Hornsby and the Range, Molo won a Grammy with the Band as the Best New Artist of the Year in 2000.
Moonalice’s manager, Big Steve Parrish, was co-founder of the Jerry Garcia Band and a Grateful Dead family member.
In 2012, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame added the digital logs for Moonalice’s piece, “It’s 4:20 Somewhere”. to their library and archives. For a real treat, watch Moonalice 420 Gathering of the Tribe, 2014.
Moonalice performs on Thursday, October 23, 2014 starting at 9:00pm. Moonalice will be performing with the Garcia Birthday Band. The Alhambra Theatre is located in the Southeast/ Mt. Tabor neighborhood of Portland Oregon. It first opened its doors in 1913 as a silent film theater, world famous for its use of different music for each screening of a film. The Alhambra Theatre consists of two rooms, two stages, and a thousand ways to command the night.
