While terrorizing a small mining town, one of the gang members in a grab for power kills Guerrero, their leader. Finding himself sentenced to hell, Guerrero makes a deal with Satan for one last day on Earth.
Danny Trejo (Guerrero), Mickey Rourke (Blacksmith), Anthony Michael Hall (Red Cavanaugh), Dina Meyer (Calathea), Richard Dillane (Jack), Colin Mace (Judah), Emil Hostina (Baptiste), Ovidiu Niculescu (Darko), Ronan Summers (Ramos), Edward Akrout (Snake), Daniel Lapaine (Sheriff).
Dead in Tombstone tries to start with some action which is mediocre, before settling in for 30 minutes of plot and character development. Finally things get rolling a bit better with some more action and mild plot twists but the film still feels like a simple revenge theme set in the Old West. Toward the end things get mildly more interesting as we cheer for the battle between good and bad, or in this case bad and bad, to be finished with extreme prejudice. The film wraps with a setup for a sequel though without hope for much of a plot improvement.
Acting was okay with Trejo delivering his usual. Rourke was an interesting choice and actually did okay, playing well against Trejo. Hall was another unusual choice but sadly just can’t pull off being a bad-guy very well. The rest of the supporting cast was decent.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were reasonably well done if somewhat simple. Stunt work was pretty good with nice action and gore scenes. Dialogue was a bit campy and slow at times. Sound and soundtrack were okay.
Dead in Tombstone appears to have been not much more than an attempt to exploit the work of Robert Rodriguez and Trejo and sadly, the film fails. The plot isn’t very original, acting was mediocre, and technical work lacked excitement, leaving us with a rather bland action film.
With foul language, persistent graphic violence, and gore, save this one for older teens and above.
