Believing he doesn’t have long to live, Frank walks away from his middle-class middle-aged life and along with teenage friend Roxy, begins killing reality TV stars, bigots, rude people, or anyone else for which they have general dislike.
Joel Murray (Frank), Tara Barr (Roxy), Melinda Hamilton (Alison), Mackenzie Smith (Ava), Rich McDonald (Brad), Maddie Hasson (Chloe), Larry Miller (Chloe’s Dad), Dorie Barton (Chloe’s Mom), Aris Alvarado (Steven).
God Bless America begins simply enough by showing us clearly how rude and inconsiderate the human race has become. Once Frank decides to take things into his own hands the action starts rolling and things get somewhat more interesting. And when he pairs up with Roxy we get another injection of action to get the story rolling even faster. Though it requires some suspension of reality to believe his crime spree with Roxy continues as long as it does we really don’t care much because he is doing what many of us wish we could. Thankfully the film doesn’t try to end with a Happy Ever After ending but simply expires in a hail of bullets.
Acting was reasonable despite Murray being hard to accept as an action hero. Surprisingly, Barr was believable and played well against Murray. Hasson and Miller were hysterical and did nicely. The remainder of the supporting cast was solid and did well.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were good with a nice variety of scenery and fitting sets. Effects and stunt work were both good and fit the film well. Dialogue was fun with appropriate campy scenes that fit the film and storyline. Sound and soundtrack were both good.
God Bless America isn’t the most unique presentation of fighting back against rude and inconsiderate people but it does have a bit more irony and humor than most. Fans of action comedies will likely enjoy this the most.
With plenty of graphic violence, foul language, and some sexuality, older teens and above should be fine with this one.
