The MX vs ATV supercross games have been the go-to titles for fans of dirt bikes and ATV’s for some time. We were able to go hands-on with the newest title hitting the PlayStation 3, PC, OS X, Linux, and Xbox 360 on August 7th. The game will actually be releasing for $29.99, which should make the game more inviting for what sounds like a deep experience. We were able to ask a few questions to the President and CEO of Big Bang Entertainment (the developers behind the game) Ken George.
1. You had mentioned there being licensed parts, how many different major manufacturers will we see in the game?
First off, we wanted to make sure all of the companies that appear in MX vs. ATV Supercross are currently a part of the community already, be it manufacturing gear or sponsoring riders, events, etc. We didn’t want anyone in the game that was outside the sport because it might just look out of place to our fans. We ended up turning down some great opportunities and still ended up with more than 80 authentic brands from the industry in the game.
It’s cool to outfit your rider and customize your bike with the same gear, parts and graphics kits you can buy at your local race shop. Wheels, tires, exhaust, and other upgrades really help you personalize the look of your ride.
2. Besides the parts, how many licensed bike manufacturers will be in the game?
We haven’t announced the OEM bike list yet, because we have one or two last contracts to ink. I can say that I couldn’t be happier about the OEM lineup for MX vs. ATV Supercross, and we have a special announcement planned once we have our final OEM contract signed.
3. Will there be a career mode and what can we expect from that or any other single player modes?
Yes! MX vs. ATV Supercross features several choices of series to run. For bikes, you start out in the 250 West series, then 250 East, and finally your can run a full 17 race season on the big 450s. We also offer similar series for ATVs as well as our namesake MX vs. ATV series.
As you progress through the seasons, you’ll unlock new parts to upgrade the look and performance of your bike.
4. What multiplayer options will be available?
MX vs. ATV Supercross supports 12 players online as well as local two player split screen so you sit on the couch and go head to head with your buddy. We’ve have some pretty heated battles in the office with these modes already J
5. Has any thought gone into implementing a track editor?
We’ve talked about a track editor for MX vs. ATV Supercross but had too many other important items to get in the game first. Not surprisingly, we’ve discussed it with each of or releases, and we’re all big fans of UGC in our previous games.
6. What separates this version from previous versions?
We went back to all of our previous games in the series and took a hard look at what made each of them unique and appealing. In addition, we interviewed and watched some of today’s top professional riders play the games at the studio and gathered their feedback on what they really liked, didn’t like, and would like to see in the upcoming release. MX vs ATV Supercross has elements from the last four releases paying homage to what we feel really makes for a fun and engaging game from the real time track deformation seen in Reflex and Alive to the way the clutch and pre-load function from Unleashed and Untamed. The physics and gameplay have been reworked and tuned to give the game its own personality from the others. We were fortunate enough to bring back one of the track designers from the Motocross Madness days up to Unleashed to design tracks along with our other track designer that has been around since MX vs ATV Untamed. Both of these guys have their own style and perspective on track design which offers a very diverse set of tracks and difficulty.
7. What is the benefits of each the ATV and the Motocross bikes?
We tried to capture the benefits of real ATVs and Motocross bikes in our MX vs. ATV Supercross. In real life, ATVs hook up better and corner better on flat surfaces, but bikes corner better in the berms and jump significantly better because of the weight savings. We brought the strengths of each in the game while making each of them relatively competitive.
8. Will there be official AMA riders in the game?
We’re excited about having more than 60 pro riders including many of the biggest names in MX vs. ATV Supercross. We’re fans of the sport as and having all these fantastic riders want to be in our game is a huge honor!
