SpaRitual, a great non-toxic, vegan nail polish brand, should really rename their “Spellbound” glittery-red nail color to “Jessica Rabbit”! Like most little girls who see the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit, growing up I was obsessed with Jessica Rabbit and her dress. Little did I know back then, as a 5-year old, how much sexual innuendo the character of Jessica Rabbit represented! But the bright red, sparkly, curve-hugging dress was really magical and awesome! I definitely wanted one then, and I most certainly want one now! I had an epiphany a few days ago when I tried SpaRitual’s nail color for the first time; that epiphany was, that if dresses could be made out of nail polish, then the color “Spellbound” would certainly recreate Jessica Rabbit’s dress in real life! I was very pleasantly surprised to see a non-toxic, 5-free nail polish brand able to create such a vibrant, glittery color without using horrible, carcinogenic chemicals in order to make it!
Ever since the green beauty trend began a few years ago, and thanks to organizations like the Environmental Working Group who produce their database called “Skin Deep” (a database that lists thousands of household cosmetic products and rates them based on the safety of their ingredients), the nail polish industry has changed dramatically in the last few years. Dozens of less-toxic, 3-free and 5-free nail polish brands have emerged, giving women who can’t help having their nails painted safer options. Essentially what these “non-toxic” nail brands have eliminated from their nail polish recipes are the dangerous chemicals toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and formaldehyde (3-free brands). There are many 5-free nail polish brands that have gone even further and have also eliminated formaldehyde resin and camphor from their formulas. SpaRitual is one of the 5-free brands, so I feel safer putting this polish on my nails. It’s also a wonderful polish that lasts and is super vibrant. The application of the product is one of the most comfortable nail polish applications I have experienced – the product glides on smoothly and dries very fast!
Check out the slideshow for some swatches of the “Spellbound” nail color! This particular color is glittery, so it is a bit difficult to capture on camera, but you can certainly see the glitter! SpaRitual has a huge selection of colors and is available on Pharmaca.com. Pharmaca also carries lots of the SpaRitual mini nail polish bottles, which are a less wasteful choice for women who only use nail polish occasionally!
