Have you heard the big holiday news? According to a Philadelphia Tribune report published on Sept. 6, the first Sunday after Labor Day recognizes those very special seniors in our lives. It’s National Grandparents Day, an annual holiday that celebrates and honors grandparents across America. This year’s event takes place on Sept. 7, 2014.
Nearly four decades ago, Marian McQuade created the annual occasion to encourage people to visit their elderly relatives and senior citizens residing in nursing homes. United States President Barack Obama recently issued a proclamation in honor of the event, urging all Americans to make and take the time to honor grandparents in their own lives and within the community.
Today is the perfect day to pamper that special senior in your life. In honor of National Grandparents Day, some businesses and restaurants across the country will celebrate the event by offering special deals and discounts.
Once again, participating White Castle locations will be servin’ up special deals in honor of National Grandparents Day. Buy one Castle Combo Meal (#1 – 6) or any Kids My Size Meal, and you’ll get one for free all weekend long. (Coupon is required.) Be sure to upload a special photo or memorable video over the weekend for a chance to be in an upcoming commercial (use hash tag #MyCrave.) Plus, there will be free paper caps this weekend, too.
The TEXAZ Grill will also be celebrating National Grandparents Day in a delicious way! Grandparents will receive a home-cooked meal just like grandma used to make – a fabulous Chicken and Dumplings dish including made-from-scratch, homemade dumplings, for just $6. Plus, all grandparents who stop in will receive a complimentary, old-fashioned homemade Rice Pudding treat to eat, too!
The Lone Star Steakhouse is offering a special deal in honor of National Grandparents’ Day. You’ll get a free Texas Rose (a tasty appetizer, not the flower) if you bring in a picture of your grandchildren on Sept. 7, 2014. Delicious!
Looking for a family-friendly event this weekend? The Children’s Museum, located in downtown Phoenix, will also be celebrating the annual occasion. Grandparents will get free admission to the museum from 9 – 4:00 on Sept. 7, 2014. Educational, entertaining and free!
Speaking of museums – The North Carolina Museum of History will be celebrating grandma and grandpa by offering discounts and deals in the Museum Shop on Sept. 7, 2014. Bring the fam or bring in a photo of the grandkids and get 20 percent off your purchases.
