Have you heard the latest “buzz?” According to an International Business Times report published on Oct. 4, an intoxicating beverage holiday is here and Americans are more than ready to celebrate! Move over, James Bond. It’s time to get into the holiday “spirit.” Today is National Vodka Day in the U.S.A (and in some other countries, too!)
This annual holiday, which is observed every Oct. 4, celebrates the nearly colorless, odorless and tasteless spirit, making it the perfect drink for all sorts of refreshing cocktails. While some establishments, pubs and bars across the nation will be celebrating National Vodka Day with special deals, vodka tastings and even free vodka, why not have your own vodka party in honor of the occasion? Whether you prefer yours shaken or stirred, why not whip up one or two of the fabulous vodka recipes listed below?
National Vodka Day Cocktails
Classic Dirty Martini – If you enjoy a classic martini, check out this Dirty Martini recipe from Svedka.
2 1/2 parts Svedka Vodka
1/2 part Dry Vermouth
Dash orange bitters
Directions: Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake or stir until drink is cold. Pour into a chilled Martini glass. Garnish with olives. Voila!
Izze Vanilla Clementini – Wow your guests with this recipe from the Cooking Channel’s popular Tripping Out with Alie & Georgia show.
1½ oz. vanilla vodka
½ oz. triple sec or orange liqueur
3 oz. Izze Sparkling Clementine
2 cups finely crushed or shaved ice
2 tbs. sweetened condensed milk
Directions: Combine vodka, triple sec, and Izze Sparkling Clementine in a glass and stir gently. Pour over shaved ice and top with a drizzle of sweetened condensed milk. Serve with a spoon. But fair warning – this one will go fast so be ready to make more!
Bloody Mary – You can’t have National Vodka Day without a fabulous Bloody Mary recipe, right? Besides tasting great, this one is fun to make, too!
1 1/2 parts Svedka Vodka
3 parts tomato juice
1/2 part fresh lemon juice
Dash Worcestershire sauce
Dash hot sauce
Pinch of salt
Directions: Build in mixing glass filled with ice, and “roll” from one cup to another until cold and mixed. Pour into a tall glass and garnish with cherry tomatoes and grated black pepper.
Witches’ Brew-ski – It’s hard to believe the bewitching hour is only a few weeks ago. The following two recipes are sure to be a great big hit at your next Halloween bash.
1 part Skinnygirl Bare Naked Vodka
1 part chilled light beer
2 parts raspberry lemonade concentrate
Apple slice for garnish
Mix all ingredients over ice and serve. Garnish with apple slice. And as always, please drink responsibly. Cheers!
2 parts Skinnygirl Tangerine Vodka
1 part fresh blood orange juice
Candy corn for garnish (optional)
Directions: Combine blood orange juice and vodka in an ice shaker. Strain and pour into a frosted martini glass. Garnish with some candy corn.
