A new UFO conspiracy theory has emerged out of the decades-old Roswell, New Mexico incident. In 1947, a U.S. Air Force weather balloon crashed at a ranch near Roswell, giving rise to fantastic claims that the incident was actually a downed extraterrestrial craft – claims that to this day continue to pique the curiosity of alien enthusiasts and armchair UFO aficionados. Case in point: The most recent resurrection of the story now alleges that the so-called weather balloon was in fact… wait for it… a bell-shaped secret Nazi surveillance rocket.
The HuffPost’s Weird News on Oct. 30 said “a new German film seems to suggest” that Nazi techies – not alien life forms – were behind the mysterious summer ’47 crash. “To be sure, it’s questionable what actually happened in the outskirts of that small town 67 years ago. But it’s also questionable if this film will ever see the light of day. At least, here’s the most truthful thing known about the incident: Something came out of the sky in July 1947 and crashed on a ranch near Roswell. But what that ‘something’ was has become a nearly 70-year-old legend.”
Indeed, the rampant alien tales took flight within hours of the crash. The Roswell Daily Record, on July 8 1947, ran a demagogic headline discussing what the Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) found. “RAAF Captures Flying Saucer On Ranch in Roswell Region,” with a subhead of “No Details of Flying Disc Are Revealed,” the paper promoted. After the initial alien allegations simmered, the public for decades conjectured on if the balloon was a conventional weather device (as has been the government’s long-standing position) or if it was in fact a U.S. reconnaissance balloon looking for Soviet activity.
In the late 1970s, UFO and alien conspiracies began to take a foothold again as researchers claimed to have interviewed hundreds of individuals connected in some way to the crash, and via the Freedom of Information Act, obtained documents “proving” that an alien craft had fallen to the earth. Bill Moore, coauthor of The Roswell Incident, claimed in his 1980 book to have interviewed “more than seventy witnesses who had some knowledge of the Roswell UFO crash event,” and that many of them confirmed the presence of an alien life.
The HuffPost claims that a film called “UFOs and the Third Reich,” is promulgating a theory similar to Discovery Channel’s 2008 clip, as seen above. According to HuffPost, a “10-foot-wide, 12-foot-high, anti-gravity, bell-shaped craft, combining rocket and helicopter technology, created by Nazi Germany, fell into the hands of the U.S. in 1943, who further developed the project. An alleged test of the Bell resulted in its crash, which became the event that started the Roswell UFO saga.”
Add the Inquisitr: “Although the Second World War ended in 1945, U.S. intelligence and military services secretly brought many scientists, particularly scientists specializing in aerodynamics, rocketry, chemical weapons, and chemical reaction technology to America after the war. Roughly around 500 of these scientists and their families arrived in the United States without State Department review and approval. Their service to Hitler’s Third Reich, SS membership, and in some cases, war criminal status, prevented them from officially obtaining visas.”
Lifting the lid on the 1947 incident is the firsthand claim of German aeronautical engineer Georg Klein, who says in the film: “This is what I saw, with my own eyes – a Nazi UFO. I don’t consider myself a crackpot or eccentric or someone given to fantasies.” German engineer Joseph Andreas Epp is named as the engineer behind these saucer-shaped, bell-like vehicles that flew silently, using “electric particle” wing blades. The technology lifted from these machines is said to be the design predecessor for the U.S. Stealth aircrafts.
“After this the wing-blades would be allowed to rotate freely as the saucer moved forward as in an auto-gyrocopter,” Epp says. “In all probability, the wing-blades speed, and so their lifting value, could also be increased by directing the adjustable horizontal jets slightly upwards to engage the blades, thus spinning them faster at the digression of the pilot.”
So were the Nazis responsible for the 1947 Roswell alien conspiracy and resultant influx of tin foil hat wearers? How did this backwater town become the epicenter for one of the most famous (and possibly the most widely debunked) UFO / alien legend of our time?
